These trends are the introduction of new Information Society Technologies (IST) leading toglobalisation, and the increasing consciousness for sustainable development. The challenge of the new century will be bringing these two trends together. IST-inducedglobalisationcreated to a tremendous increase of mobility: People, goods, money and information are moving around. Roads are used for storage and delivery of goods is possible "just in time". Money can be withdrawn from investments within seconds and information spread via internet may decide about the wealth of nations. The increased mobility of people, goods, money and information has consequences for sustainable development. This contribution examines the impact of ISTin the social, economical and ecological dimension of sustainability and proposes a strategy for a sustainable information society.
