Communicating Geographic Knowledge using the EnerGEO platform – a new presentation strategy coupling geoportal discovery and Energeo pilot result presentation in a new tile-design platform approach

Zusammenfassung

Within the EU FP7 EnerGEO project a new geoplatform, which provides information from and for the energy domain has been created. With its link to the GEOSS portal it promotes technical and semantic interoperability as well as efficient discovery mechanisms connecting expert and casual users across all businesses. The concept of this geoplatform is geared to the task-oriented and goal-oriented design philosophy concepts. The new extended geoplatform approach focuses on the needs for communicating geographic knowledge to users, consumers and communities. It presents content and knowledge via an easy-to-understand interface, which is based on a tile-based design philosophy for geographic knowledge communication on the Web. The geoplatform also introduces a geo-semantically enriched recommender system for enhancing the hits of successful and accurate discovery results. The integration of a smart recommender system into the geoplatform enriches content with information derived from semantic text matching and user interactions.
