Zusammenfassung

Observation and exploration of objects in the real world using satellite imageries are becoming more popular. Objects can be observed by different sensors which are developed to acquire more spectral bands and higher spatial resolution than before. As users want to use satellite imageries to monitor and analyze the status of real world objects at a certain time in a defined area, they must have intrinsic knowledge about available satellites and sensors. They have to query several times for different platforms/sensors in order to get all necessary datasets for their works. However, those satellite imageries, that are adequate with user demand, may not be found out because they do not know about the sensor or think of it. This paper presents an ontology based approach which describes certain properties of earth observation sensors, including of wavelength, temporal resolution and spatial resolution corresponding to observable objects. The concept is focused on defining of specific relationships and rules in order to meet the user application. This approach facilitates users search for satellite imageries and provides easy extensibility for new sensors, or new technologies based on EO imagery to observe real world object.
