Zusammenfassung
During the next three years Poland will construct a modern environmental information system based on the results of the conceptualisation project outlined in this paper. Among important reasons to create such system is to provide the society and the decision makers with actual and precise information on the state of environment measured by the State Monitoring of Environment. To build such highly distributed system the up-to-date information technology will be applied ranging from the relational databases through data warehouses up to the reporting system and the national environmental portal conforming with established eEIONET standards. An important component of Ekoinfonet will be the warning system based on the forecast of atmospheric pollution in the selected zones. This on-line system will be used on the regional level enabling adoption of countermeasures in case of excessive pollution scenarios.
