IMAGE2000 is part of the I&CLC2000 joint European Environment Agency (EEA) / Joint Research Centre (JRC) project. I&CLC2000 is a 3 years project, co-funded by the European Commission and 29 participating countries, aimed to update the CORINE Land Cover database (CLC2000) and to derive the spatial reference for Europe (IMAGE2000). The EEA takes responsibility for CLC2000 and JRC for IMAGE2000.
IMAGE2000 is a reference European dataset, based on Landsat 7 ETM+ images, orthorectified to national projection system (orthorectified images and national mosaic) and to European projection system (the European multi-scale and multipurpose mosaic). The IMAGE2000 products are consistent in time and geometry all over Europe, completely harmonized at national and European level, aimed at multiusers requirements. A significant database of the output imagery has been developed, which is already providing direct access for European Commission staff and which is being extended to allow image download by external users. The data can support a wide range of applications as a standardized European Spatial Reference in itself and as source material for deriving further information layers.
