Zusammenfassung
Information and Communication Technology is a vehicle for generating and distributing information, some of which can be environmental in nature and worldwide in scope. EnviroInfo conferences combine environmental topics with the dissemination potential of informatics to implement access to environmental data and research findings as information offerings on the World Wide Web. This year’s EnviroInfo conference theme Networking Environmental Information provides a new opportunity to look at the mosaic of presented ideas which can be summarized as environmentally relevant for information flows in Europe.
This paper seeks to clarify how the conference–based exchange of research results, information sources and newly developed applications stimulates knowledge integration and competence building. A systemic view of the man-made and natural environments is presented, in order to provide orientation in this conference and to pave the way for the creation of a semantic network of conference contributions in environmental informatics.
