Überlegungen zu einer Spatial Big Data Architektur im BigGIS Projekt
(Umweltinformationssysteme 2016 - Umweltbeobachtung: Nah und Fern, 2016) Abecker, Andreas; Brauer, Torsten; Kutterer, Johannes; Schnitter, Karsten; Nimis, Jens; Wiener, Patrick
In the recent years, a number of data-management and data-analytics applications and technologies under the label “big data” has found much interest among academics and practitioners. From our point of view, the respective researchers and commercial pro-viders, up to now, neglected to a large extent both the spatial dimension of potential big-data applications and their usage potential in the area of environment protection and environment management. Hence, the RTD project BigGIS investigates methods and tools for “Spatial Big Data” in three environment-related application scenarios. In this paper, some basic definitions and considerations are explained, the three applica-tion scenarios of BigGIS are presented and some initial insights regarding software architectures for Spatial Big Data solutions in the area of geo data and environmental applications are presented.

This paper describes the concepts and the technological background of the mobile app “My Environment” („Meine Umwelt”). The main idea of this app is to merge various environment-related scenarios into a single app for mobile use. This idea dates back to the European initiative "SEIS" (Shared Environmental Information System) allowing the public to see environmental-related information within their area (“What’s in my backyard?”). To achieve this, the app “My Environment” includes three main scenarios. These are the publication of environmental information ("Inform") for interested laymen, collecting new or updating existing environmental information ("Report"), as well as providing localized information to enable people to go outside and experience nature ("Experience").

Entwurfsmuster in Android-Apps am Beispiel von Apps für die Forstwirtschaft
(Umweltinformationssysteme 2016 - Umweltbeobachtung: Nah und Fern, 2016) Müller, Christine
It is easy to develop an Android-App and even beginners in programming can create an Android-App fast. Therefore, the question arises, it is worth spending time on design and architecture of such lightweight programs. But the frequency with which new An-droid versions are released and the changing demands of the users makes it just as necessary for apps to be flexible and extendable. Inforst develops apps for forestry that run completely offline. They are just as complex as desktop applications which meet the same tasks of collection, storage and exchange of timber data. The price for apps is far below the price for comparable desktop applications though. This puts even higher pressure on developers to develop reusable software components and reduce the costs for testing and refactoring. To fulfill these demands the use of Design Pat-terns can be helpful as is shown in this article at the example of the app “WaldFliege”15used to collect timber data.

    Wasserkörper- und Nährstoffinformationssystem Schleswig-Holstein
(Umweltinformationssysteme 2016 - Umweltbeobachtung: Nah und Fern, 2016) Hosenfeld, Friedhelm; Tiffert, Johannes; Dr. Trepel, Michael
The waterbody and nutrient information system Schleswig-Holstein presents water monitoring data to the public. The portal was publicly released in March 2016 and offers a variety of search and evaluation functions. Among others it meets the demands of interest groups like the farmers’ association for data about nutrient concentrations like phosphor and nitrogen in ground and surface water bodies in order to recognize the need for local action. In addition to information about nutrients, reports on water bodies according to the EC Water Framework Directive (WFD) can be retrieved. The infor-mation system is based on the presentation and evaluation platform Cadenza Web.

Mobile Sensing zur Hochwasservorhersage in kleinen Einzugsgebieten
(Umweltinformationssysteme 2016 - Umweltbeobachtung: Nah und Fern, 2016) Burkhard, Simon; Fuchs-Kittowski, Frank; Pfützner, Bernd; Müller, Ruben
For small drainage basins flood forecasting is particularly difficult and uncertain. By incorporating additional information that are captured and collected by volunteers with help of their smartphones (Volunteered Geographic Information, VGI), flood forecast-ing systems can be improved and forecast uncertainties can be minimized. This paper presents and discusses different concepts and methods for measuring relevant hydro-logical parameters with mobile smartphone sensors. In this context, the focus is on describing various image-based approaches for water gauge measurements.

    www.Wasserqualität-Online.de – Das WebGIS-basierte, deutschlandweite Bürgerportal
(Umweltinformationssysteme 2016 - Umweltbeobachtung: Nah und Fern, 2016) Gutzke, Thomas; Stelzer, Marco; Gutzke, Alina
Requirements on the quality of drinking water – based on the Drinking Water Ordinance (Trinkwasserverordnung) – are quite high in Germany. The given standards issue big challenges to the majority of the estimated 6.200 water suppliers. One part of that statutory requirements demands the publication of the drinking water quality for the public by every supplier at regular intervals for every of their clearly defined water supply areas. Conditional to size and therefore technical capabilities of the suppliers the complexity of this task is extreme and sometimes not accomplished to the full extent. This article describes the development and technical background of a unique GIS-based web portal that addresses to all German water suppliers as well as all end-consumers. Suppliers can perform their publication obligations in a convenient way and the public finds easily access to their requested information about drinking water quality all over Germany.

Automatisierte Zeitreihenanalyse von Fernerkundungsdaten für das Monitoring von Oberflächengewässern
(Umweltinformationssysteme 2016 - Umweltbeobachtung: Nah und Fern, 2016) Bahr, Thomas; Holzer, Nicolai
Since 2012, the state of California faces an extreme drought, which impacts water supply in many ways. Advanced remote sensing is an important technology to better assess water resources, monitor drought conditions and water supplies, plan for drought response and mitigation, and measure drought impacts. In the present case study latest time series analysis capabilities are used to examine surface water in res-ervoirs located along the western flank of the Sierra Nevada region of California. Komplexe Auswertung von Fachinformationen am Beispiel der Fachanwendung Grundwasser Baden-Württemberg
(Umweltinformationssysteme 2016 - Umweltbeobachtung: Nah und Fern, 2016) Schmieder, Martin; Moßgraber, Jürgen
Advanced reporting obligations and stricter legal regulations increase the requirements on modern environmental information systems. Specialized applications have to sup-port new ways of analysis and representation of the collected data in order to gain new insights. The article presents the thematic application for groundwater management in Baden-Württemberg, which is tailored to the needs of the users in the environmental agencies. Three typical use cases are described: calculation and visualization of the influence of geothermal drilling on the groundwater temperature, trend analysis on groundwater quality data according to legal regulations, new diagrams to clearly visu-alize and compare fluctuations of groundwater levels.

ArtenFinder - Citizen Science am Beispiel der Libellen
(Umweltinformationssysteme 2016 - Umweltbeobachtung: Nah und Fern, 2016) Dr. Röller, Oliver; Dr. Walter, Rolf
In the field of natural research and nature protection, the experience has shown that it makes sense to extend this definition: due to modern and internet based projects of species registration the term changes to Modern Citizen Science [Röller 2015]. Using the example of the „ArtenFinder Rhineland-Palatinate“, the characters, the meaning for the sciences as well as the additional benefit of the method of Modern Citizen Science will be discussed.
