Gestaltung von Mitfahrsystemen für ältere Erwachsene
(i-com: Vol. 13, No. 2, 2014) Meurer, Johanna; Stein, Martin; Wulf, Volker; Rohde, Markus
Motivated by rising global energy demands and a growing awareness of the scarcity of natural resources sustainable mobility concepts are demanded as much as never before. One solution is offered by ridesharing concepts, realized with ICT supported mobile interaction systems. Current systems already address issues of comfort or efficiency and thus refer to mobility widely in functional terms of transport, moving people from one place to another. However, ridesharing is in its basic conception an interactive cooperation between at least two persons negotiating a shared ride. We argue in this paper for the necessary of a praxis-based perspective on ridesharing in order to explore the interactive mechanisms people refer to in ridesharing situations. We will show that a phenomenological inquiry provides added value in understanding practical challenges in ridesharing contexts, and identifying methods used to address practical challenges that can provide new starting points for design.

    Kennzahlen kooperativer Arbeitsbereiche
(i-com: Vol. 13, No. 2, 2014) Prinz, Wolfgang; Jeners, Nils
The paper presents metrics for shared workspaces, based on the analysis of user activities in the shared workspace system BSCW. We propose metrics to compare the activity, productivity and cooperativity of users in different shared workspaces. Our analysis indicates that the metrics allow for a mapping of workspaces to a usage intention as well as a benchmark between different user groups. Furthermore we observed the Pareto principle known from other statistical evaluations also in the ratio between active and passive users of a workspace. Additionally our research indicates the distribution ratio of information within a shared workspaces.

A well investigated effect is the dependency between perceived usability and perceived aesthetics of products. Several studies show that aesthetically pleasing products are also perceived as highly usable. Aesthetic design is thus important for the success of a product. For designers it is essential to understand how concrete design decisions influence perceived aesthetics. Several well-known design heuristics guide designers in their decisions. We investigate heuristics for creating the layout, i.e. the positioning of UI elements on the screen. We study several heuristics to find out if they indeed influence the aesthetic perception of users. In addition, the relative strength of this influence is also investigated. For the study several variants of eight web sites were constructed that vary systematically concerning the investigated heuristics. Participants were asked to rank the variants concerning aesthetic impression. A conjoint analysis was used to analyze the results. From a methodological point of view the study shows that design principles can easily be derived by systematical variation of screen variants and a conjoint analysis. From the investigated screens a number of quite concrete suggestions concerning the optimal layout of screens could be derived. These suggestions can help designers in their daily work to make the right decisions to create an aesthetically pleasing layout.

    Intranets für den Praxiseinsatz
(i-com: Vol. 13, No. 2, 2014) Wendland, Karsten; Gumm, Dorina; Hillen, Meike

Online platform Twitter, has been recognized by international foreign offices as an outlet for travel warning. This new channel of information allows for the creation of applications that bring current and high quality travel risk information to the mainstream. Our explorative research aims at investigating the role of the information source and target audience of such an application. The results of our analysis show no substantial evidence that user-generated travel risk information would be per se unsuitable as an information source. Further, our analysis revealed that frequent travelers might be of special interest as a target group for the application.

Collaborative elaboration of early innovation ideas
(i-com: Vol. 13, No. 2, 2014) Kipp, Philipp; Bittner, Eva; Bretschneider, Ulrich; Marco, Jan
Web-based innovation platforms (WBIP) are common tools for the integration of customers and other external stakeholders into the product and service innovation processes of companies. WBIP of many large companies are very successful in generating many ideas. This leads to WBIP operators drowning in lots of possibly creative and high potential ideas, which are difficult to screen. Therefore, this paper suggests a collaboration process allowing customers to participate collaboratively in the elaboration of self-selected ideas. The collaboration process has been developed following the collaboration process design approach and was designed to be implemented on WBIP.

Reflektion der wissenschaftlichen Nutzenbetrachtung von Social Software
(i-com: Vol. 13, No. 2, 2014) Meske, Christian; Stieglitz, Stefan
After the widespread of social media for private purposes within the last years, companies also started to explore the potential benefits of professional social software usage by focusing on customer interaction (e.g. via Facebook or Twitter) as well as on company-internal purposes (e.g. via Wikis, Blogs, etc.). In this article, we review and reflect the status quo of the scientific discussion of potential benefits that are induced by social software. We show, that the measurement of the added value of social software is difficult to perform and yet of high importance for practice as well as science.
