Using the example of Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems (OSHMS) knowledge management methods and techniques are discussed in this paper, in order to represent and transfer usable knowledge. Based on these results user-orientated IT-solutions can be designed. Therefore OSHMS-concepts and structures are introduced as well as semantic networks and Topic Maps are presented. Finally different ways of information usage are elaborated in order to design knowledge management-based IT-solutions to record and transfer knowledge, relevant to occupational safety, efficiently. This survey is written in cooperation with Volkswagen AG, Europe’s largest automobile manufacturer.de
