The population in cities is increasing world-wide, and therefore more and more attention is paid to the air quality in large cities. Austrian and European initiatives and projects to improve our knowledge on urban-related modifications of the atmospheric boundary layer with the aid of ground-based remote sensing devices are presented. Results are encouraging and will help to develop reliable air pollution models in the future.de
