After a brief introduction to the use of simulation in inventory management the paper presents a material flow simulator whose functionality can be augmented and customized through domain-specific plug-in components. This is followed by a discussion of how the use of such customized simulation frameworks can serve as a base for making ecologically responsible inventory management decisions.de
