- ZeitschriftenartikelCapability Driven Development: An Approach to Designing Digital Enterprises(Business & Information Systems Engineering: Vol. 57, No. 1, 2015) Bērziša, Solvita; Bravos, George; Gonzalez, Tania Cardona; Czubayko, Ulrich; España, Sergio; Grabis, Jānis; Henkel, Martin; Jokste, Lauma; Kampars, Jânis; Koç, Hasan; Kuhr, Jan-Christian; Llorca, Carlos; Loucopoulos, Pericles; Pascual, Raul Juanes; Pastor, Oscar; Sandkuhl, Kurt; Simic, Hrvoje; Stirna, Janis; Valverde, Francisco Giromé; Zdravkovic, JelenaThe need for organizations to operate in changing environments is addressed by proposing an approach that integrates organizational development with information system (IS) development taking into account changes in the application context of the solution. This is referred to as Capability Driven Development (CDD). A meta-model representing business and IS designs consisting of goals, key performance indicators, capabilities, context and capability delivery patterns, is being proposed. The use of the meta-model is validated in three industrial case studies as part of an ongoing collaboration project, whereas one case is presented in the paper. Issues related to the use of the CDD approach, namely, CDD methodology and tool support are also discussed.
- ZeitschriftenartikelCapability-based Communication Analysis for Enterprise Modelling(Enterprise Modelling and Information Systems Architectures (EMISAJ) – International Journal of Conceptual Modeling: Vol. 13, Nr. 4, 2018) Pastor, Oscar; Ruiz, Marcela; Koç, Hasan; Valverde, FranciscoCapability-oriented enterprise modelling can provide effective solutions to face changing business context. In the business domain, the notion of capability has gained a lot of attention since it guides the activities of service specification and design. Simultaneously, the research community has been promoting the integration of model-driven development (MDD) approaches with enterprise modelling to support the link between enterprise and software specifications. This integration has becoming vital to ensure the traceability of enterprise models and software implementations, acceleration of software time to market, quality assurance, and enterprise model evolution support. The capability-driven development (CDD) method has been recently developed and applied in various industrial use cases. But, the link between the CDD method and strong funded MDD approaches has not been explored. In this paper we explore the integration of the CDD method with the Communication Analysis method (a communication-oriented business process modelling method), which is supported by means of MDD frameworks. Among the advantages to add the communicational perspective to the CDD method, we want to highlight the possibility to offer a high level analysis of business process models that focus on the communications between different organisational actors, as so as to offer further transformation facilities into software components. With this integration, we give the first steps to offer automation facilities to capability-driven environments.
B. Business und IT). Data protection is playing an increasingly important role in modern data processing. Beginning with May 25, 2018, companies need to comply with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), a regulation to standardize the data protection laws across all 28 EU countries. In case of a noncompliance, the companies can be fined up to 4% of annual global turnover or €20 million. Recent studies show that the rate of the companies that put the GDPR requirements into practice is quite low. One challenge in this context is vague interpretations of GDPR and the complexity of applying the regulation in practice. Enterprise architectures deliver a holistic view of essential artefacts in an organization. This is achieved by relating information across different domains, e. g. Business and IT. In the GDPR context, such structures deem to be vital when it comes to documenting why the data is processed and in which systems it is stored. To this end, we propose a systematic approach on how to introduce a GDPR project in organizations drawing on the concepts of Enterprise Architecture Management. The approach, which is currently being used in an internationally leading software manufacturer, is developed and evaluated in line with design science research paradigm.
- KonferenzbeitragDevelopment and evaluation of a component-based context modelling method(Modellierung 2016 - Workshopband, 2016) Koç, Hasan; Sandkuhl, KurtIn very general terms, a method describes a systematic procedure for problem solving including the required aids and resources. This paper is a continuation of our earlier work that reported on the practices and experiences in the development of a component-based context modelling method in the area of information systems development. The contributions of the paper are (1) the detailed development process of the context modelling method, with a particular focus on artefact evaluation by means of the Framework for Evaluation in Design Science Research (FEDS) (2) additional experiences and lessons learned from the method engineering and application process.
Due to ever-changing market context, organizations must constantly adapt their value propositions. The increasing speed in the adoption of digital means enable organizations to face this challenge. Deutsche Rentenversicherung is also constantly changing with 59,000 employees who look after around 56 million insured persons and almost 21 million retirees in Germany and abroad. Aligned with the digital strategy of the organization, one indicator of this change is the introduction of innovative services. An important building block for the “Digital Strategy” of the Deutsche Rentenversicherung Bund is Robotic Process Automation, with which the Deutsche Rentenversicherung is aiming at considerable advantages in the services through process automation and error reduction. There is an increasing interest in Robotic Process Automation both in literature and practice, but contributions in the context of the public sector are rather scarce. This article reports on the implementation of a Robotic Process Automation-based transformation process for services at Deutsche Rentenversicherung. Specifically, initial results from the transformation of four services are described, which resulted from a structured analysis of 26 use cases with the service-providing departments.
Textile processes are resource intensive and there is a lack of transparency in quantifying the environmental impact of processes. Business process modeling using standardized notations enables visualization and analysis of processes, but less is known about its application in the textile industry. Using a case study of a Berlin-based retailer of sustainable textiles, this study explores the potential of business process modeling for a sustainability assessment of textiles, contributing to the existing body of knowledge. Using the life cycle assessment method, four types of textile finishing processes were modeled and their sustainability rating was calculated based on eight indicators identified in the literature. The results show that business process modeling combined with the life cycle assessment method offers potential value for investigating and identifying critical tasks, activities, and elements related to environmental impacts. We argue that the application of business process modeling approaches can support green IT initiatives. However, the discussion on sustainability initiatives through Green BPM is still at an early stage. Therefore, the contribution of this research paper, which uses business process modeling together with Green BPM, is essential for both research and practice in the field of “sustainability and information technology”.
