Er diskutiert diese Ergebnisse aus der Perspektive sozio-technischer Phänomene und beschreibt Anforderungen aus dieser Perspektive, die bisher im Bereich AAL zu wenig beachtet werden.
- WorkshopbeitragAdjusting AR-Workflows of Care Tasks: Experiences from an Initial Study(Mensch und Computer 2019 - Workshopband, 2019) Janssen, Marc; Prilla, MichaelProfessional caregivers need to adhere to standards when treating their patients in order to ensure a certain level of quality and hygiene. Whenever standards are refined or changed, caregivers must keep pace with them. However, these standards are interpreted differently by care providers and also offer degrees of freedom which enable caregivers to adapt them in certain situations and according to their own experience and practice. Workflows are a useful tool to define, share and execute standards correctly. In this paper we investigate the possibility to adjust workflows with our Care Lenses, an Augmented Reality based tool, which can be used by caregivers during the execution of care tasks and which supports them with guidance regarding standards. We show how care practice influences the development of technical support for workflows and what kind of advantages the possibility of adjustments grants to workflows and the integration into practice.
- KonferenzbeitragAugmented Living: Einsatz von Augmented Reality im Alltag(Mensch & Computer 2014 - Workshopband, 2014) Ksoll, Michael; Prilla, Michael; Rashid, Asarnusch; Herrmann, Thomas; Merkle, NicoleAugmented Reality (AR) ist im Bereich des demografischen Wandels eine Form der Mensch-Technik-Interaktion, welche dazu beitragen kann, älteren Menschen intuitive und im Alltag integrierte Mensch-Technik-Benutzerschnittstellen zu bieten und diesen damit den Zugang zu digitalen Medien zu erleichtern. Bisherige Arbeiten adressieren eher ein junges Zielpublikum und fokussieren sich auf einzelne Anwendungsfälle. Das Projekt Augmented Living geht der Frage nach Einsatzmöglichkeiten und Grenzen von AR zur Unterstützung älterer Menschen in ihrem Alltag bzw. dem generations-übergreifenden Zusammenleben nach. In dieser Arbeit präsentieren wir den Zwischenstand im Projekt und stellen den Stand der Forschung, die identifizierten Anwendungsfälle und die Methodik zur geplanten Analyse von Einsatzpotentialen, Benutzerakzeptanz, Erfolgsfaktoren und Best-Practices vor.
- KonferenzbeitragAugmented Reality Guidance for Car Repairs: immediate and long-term Effects(Mensch und Computer 2021 - Tagungsband, 2021) Hoffmann, Clemens; Prilla, Michael; Wundram, Kai; Emmermann, BjörnCar service technicians are challenged by the increasing variety and complexity of repair and maintenance tasks. Recent studies have shown benefits by using augmented reality (AR) for different industrial tasks. Most studies compared a very established support technology with the new AR support in just one initial exposure. The lack of routine in dealing with AR often creates a respective disadvantage. This paper looks into the question to which extent can AR head-mounted display (AR HMD) guidance provide benefits for an unknown car repair task. To investigate further than an initial exposure, the service technicians repeated the specific task every twoweeks in total four times. The experiment under field conditions compares the efficiency, the repair quality, and the mental effort under AR HMD support to the traditional repair guideline. Results indicated that AR HMD support impacts positive the repair quality immediately and long term. Furthermore, the AR HMD support created a decent learning environment, that the high quality also remained without AR guidance. This shows opportunities to use AR HMDs for training and guidance of industrial tasks in practice.
- KonferenzbeitragCombining Web 2.0 and Collaboration Support Systems(Mensch und Computer 2008: Viel Mehr Interaktion, 2008) Prilla, Michael; Ritterskamp, CarstenIn the current discussion of the impact Web 2.0 may have on CSCW and Groupware research, Web 2.0 applications are often considered to be a substitute for Collaboration Support Systems. This paper argues that rather than replacing such systems, Web 2.0 mechanisms may complement them and help to overcome existing problems. The paper provides an analysis of differences and overlaps in purposes of applications and processes in these domains. This leads to the development of strategies for their combination. The paper describes real world implementations of these strategies and reflects upon how Web 2.0 may influence and even shape next generation Collaboration Support Systems.

- KonferenzbeitragDesigning Augmented Reality Workflows for Care Specific Tasks(Mensch und Computer 2021 - Tagungsband, 2021) Janßen, Marc; Droste, Alexander Volker; Prilla, MichaelAugmented Reality Head Mounted Devices have the potential to provide digital information to people while they are working. Besides other advantages, this enables the provision workers with instructions how to carry out certain tasks both for training and while they are working on the task. While using HMDs for the purposes has been shown to be beneficial in practice, the creation and adaptation of instructions and corresponding workflows is still a manual, time-consuming task. In this paper, we present a tool that enables the modelling and HMD specific configuration of such workflows, and that automatically instantiates these workflows on HMDs. This provides opportunities for creating user-specific workflows on HMDs and to adapt existing workflows to the needs of users. We illustrate the potential of our solution by the example of workflows in care.
- KonferenzbeitragThe effects of consultant avatar size and dynamics on customer trust in online consultations(Mensch und Computer 2020 - Tagungsband, 2020) Brown, Gordon; Prilla, MichaelThis study investigates the impact of avatars on interactions between customers and consultants in remote, online consultations supported by Augmented Reality (AR). Based on past research, we were interested whether the appearance of an avatar and its dynamics affect important factors for online consultations such as social presence, trust in the consultant and perceived customer satisfaction. In particular, we chose avatar size and dynamics (movement/gaze) to compare different avatars in a 2x2 experiment, in which customers wear AR head mounted devices to consult a remotely located consultant in a mock furniture consultation session. Our results show no significant differences in trust and satisfaction, but significantly different levels of perceived social presence for life-sized, dynamic avatars as well as significantly higher co-presence for all life-sized avatars. Additional data from interviews with the participants revealed a clear preference for dynamic avatars over static ones. Based on an analysis of these findings, we make design recommendations and suggest directions for future research.
- WorkshopbeitragEntwurf und Entwicklung von realitätsnahen Lernszenarien mittels Augmented Reality(Mensch und Computer 2018 - Tagungsband, 2018) Kunzendorff, Timo; Prilla, MichaelDieser Artikel stellt einen Ansatz vor, in dem mit Augmented Reality die Ausbildung von Pflegekräften und anderen im Gesundheitswesen tätigen Personen unterstützt werden soll. Mittels zwei Szenarien wird aufgezeigt, wie diese Unterstützung im Alltag genutzt werden kann. Die Verwendbarkeit und der potentielle Nutzen des Systems wurden mithilfe der Szenarien in einer Evaluation überprüft. Hier zeigte sich, dass die Probanden trotz einer für sie neuen Technologie in der Lage waren die Testaufgaben erfolgreich abzuschließen. Die veränderte Lernsituation wurde als positiv empfunden, dabei haben sich aber auch Verbesserungsvorschläge ergeben, die zu einer weiterführenden Entwicklung des vorhandenen Systems motivieren.
