- KonferenzbeitragPerception of an Uncertain Ethical Reasoning Robot: A Pilot Study(Mensch und Computer 2018 - Tagungsband, 2018) Stellmach, Hanna; Lindner, FelixThe study investigates the effect of uncertainty expressed by a robot facing a moral dilemma on humans' moral judgment and impression formation. Participants (N = 80) were shown a video of a robot explaining a moral dilemma and the decision it makes. The robot either expressed certainty or uncertainty about its decision. Participants rated how much blame the robot deserves for its action, the moral wrongness of the action, and their impression of the robot in terms of four scale dimensions measuring social perception. The results suggest that participants that were not familiar with the moral dilemma assign more blame to the robot for the same action when it expresses uncertainty, while expressed uncertainty has less effect on moral wrongness judgments. There was no significant effect of expressed uncertainty on participants' impression of the robot. We discuss implications of this result for the design of social robots.
- KonferenzbeitragDevelopers' Needs and Severity Conceptions of Usability Problems(Mensch und Computer 2018 - Tagungsband, 2018) Truong, Ngoc-Huy; Brand, Daniel; Ewert, Carine; Wächter, Laura; von Stülpnagel, RulTo improve products effectively, usability testing reports must be comprehensible for developers. How-ever, it remains unclear which information is helpful and whether developers agree on the severity of usability issues with usability researchers. In this case study, a team of software developers rated three forms of usability feedback: (1) a low-detailed presentation of obtrusive usability problems, (2) a low-detailed list of aggregated problems, and (3) a high-detailed list of unique and aggregated usability prob-lems. Furthermore, developers and usability researchers independently created criteria for low, medium, and high severe usability problems, based on their respective expertise. Our analyses indicate that (1) and (3) were both perceived as helpful. Moreover, agreement within each group and between both groups was high, indicating that developers and usability researchers can have a similar understanding regarding the severity of usability issues.
- WorkshopbeitragTrust in activity tracker measurement and its link to user acceptance(Mensch und Computer 2018 - Tagungsband, 2018) Trommler, Daniel; Attig, Christiane; Franke, ThomasInaccuracies in data measurement can impair trustworthiness of activity trackers (i.e., wearable fitness devices) and, thus, constitute a usability challenge possibly impairing user acceptance. With the present research, we aim at advancing understanding of perceived trustworthiness of activity tracker measurement and its relevance for user acceptance. N = 79 users of activity trackers were surveyed regarding their daily interaction with the tracker, user experience, and user acceptance. Results indicated a substantial variance in perceived trustworthiness. Many users perceived suboptimal trustworthiness of the tracking of their activity data, indicating potential for optimization. Further, analyses showed that higher perceived trustworthiness of activity tracker measurement was indeed linked to higher user acceptance. The results highlight the potential of enhancing user acceptance of activity trackers by improving perceived trustworthiness of activity measurement.
- WorkshopbeitragHANDle: A Novel Tangible Device for Hand Therapy Exergames(Mensch und Computer 2018 - Tagungsband, 2018) Klamka, Konstantin; Mitschick, Annett; Dachselt, RaimundToday's working environments are characterized by and at the same time highly depending on many repetitive hand movements, such as typing or assembling tasks. The physical health of hands is thereby becoming increasingly valuable. Guided by the idea of Tangible User Interfaces (TUIs), we introduce a novel graspable device, called HANDle, that we developed to train wrist agility, finger strength as well as its coordination in a motivational game. Therefore, we iteratively prototyped a fully-functional controller that senses multiple finger forces, its relative position in space and that provides visual and vibro-tactile feedback. In addition, we implemented a therapy game that combines different physiotherapeutic motion and grasp exercises supporting custom-defined levels that match to the patient needs.
- KonferenzbeitragEvaluation of Users‘ Effort in a Human-computer Cooperation based Indoor Mobile Location System(Mensch und Computer 2018 - Tagungsband, 2018) Zeng, Limin; Noeres, Tino; Weber, GerhardDue to the utilization of existing infrastructure and powerful mobile devices, many different indoor localization systems have been booming in recent years. However, most of those systems very focus on technical issues, a few studies investigate usability issues from users’ perspective. In this paper, we conduct a case study with 18 participants to study how many effort (e.g., physical and mental workload) users would spend in a human-computer cooper-ation indoor positioning system. To support the study, we develop a Google Tango tablet based infrastructure-free indoor positioning system, by mapping users’ walking trajectory and environmental features. Through the evaluation, we confirm that the workload increas-es as the increase of required walking distance, specifically for the physical and temporal demands. While positioning in an infrastructure-free environment, the participants were willing to contribute and would walk maximum 50 meters with their mobile devices.
- KonferenzbeitragRequirements for a Novel Interaction Device for Patients in Intensive Care(Mensch und Computer 2018 - Tagungsband, 2018) Kopetz, Jan Patrick; Kordts, Börge; Henkel, Adrienne; Jochems, NicoleDue to the obstruction of verbal communication, mechanically ventilated patients in intensive care units often cannot impart their basic needs. Possible consequences are a prolonged healing process, delirium, and other complications. To overcome the communication barrier, we provide a specialized solution to support communication in intensive care. Since patients bound to the bed are not able to use traditional devices efficiently, we develop a novel interaction device tailored to the intensive care context. In this paper, we present key requirements for the device, which are relevant to the interaction itself. These requirements resulted from a human-centered design process consisting of two studies, several workshops, and a comprehensive user and context analysis. We identified three categories relevant for the interaction, namely look and feel, sensors and actuators.
