- KonferenzbeitragApplication service provisioning - Current state and partnership strategies(Information Systems Technology and its Applications, international conference ISTA'2001, 2001) Kallio, PäiviThe European Application Service Provisioning (ASP) market is estimated to grow to USD 8.2 billion in 2003. Application Service Providers are companies that provision software applications over the Internet. The ASP will change traditional software businesses by turning software applications from products to services. This study researched the state of the current software business, ASP and the ability of Finnish software companies to gain partners in the international ASP competition based on the situation in November 2000. The current state of ASP business was examined by researching literature and four Finnish software companies that make use or are going to make use of ASP in the future. Because the concept of ASP is new, the amount of previous researches concerning ASP is very limited. The current state of software companies in this research is based on a study made by Forsell and Nukari in 1999 and on an international research of 100 software firms made by Harvard Business School in 1999. In this research it was found out that Finnish ASPs seek value added service and technology partners on the basis of their quality and trustworthiness. The partners co-operate in marketing, support and research. The current ASP market is fast changing, fast growing, immature and uncertain, but the faith in it is very strong. Finnish companies regard finding competent partners difficult because of the still immature market. Technology and security do not prevent the widespread use of ASP. The keys to success in the ASP market are co-operation with qualified partners, specializing in existing strengths, and qualitative and secure software products.
- KonferenzbeitragKnowledge – Based maintenance environment for large information handling systems(Information Systems Technology and its Applications, international conference ISTA'2001, 2001) Tkachuk, Nikolay V.; Kuklenko, Dmitry V.; Ovasapov, Sergey V.; Shchekotykhin, Konstantin M.Some modern trends in software maintenance domain are depicted and discussed. The case study related topics, solutions, as well as some challenges and open problems based on the real maintenance project’s experience in the Ukrainian gas-transport industry, are presented. The idea of knowledge-based unified Maintenance Environment for large legacy information systems creation necessity and possibilities is introduced and discussed, and its first knowledge model specification is presented.
- KonferenzbeitragDesign and development issues of retrospective database in complex technological control systems(Information Systems Technology and its Applications, international conference ISTA'2001, 2001) Kuklenko, DmytryOne of the aspects of the reengineering problem of legacy Information Management Systems for complex Technological Process, related with working out of new program components, destined for storing and processing the retrospective information concerning the functioning of Technological Process, was considered. As an object for re-engineering processing the Computer-Aided Information System (CAMS) of one of the plants of Romny (Ukraine) Gas Compress Station. A new CAMS program architecture, the model of new program component, which was named as Retrospective Database, and main aspects of its software implementation are considered in this paper.
- KonferenzbeitragReasoning about the role of information systems in trusting decisions(Information Systems Technology and its Applications, international conference ISTA'2001, 2001) Perc, PrimozThe interest in the study of trust has grown steadily since 1990 in a wide range of scholarly disciplines. The science of information systems is no exception, since the concepts of information and trust are inseparably intermingled. Meanwhile, there exist numerous applications of trust – most commonly in the areas of security and content filtering - many of which have already successfully been tested in real-world environments. However, with some exceptions, relatively little has been done in laying the conceptual foundations for discussing the relationship between information systems and trust. In this paper we argue that especially in environments, characterized through low presence of institutional mechanisms, availability of information is an important factor in facilitating trusting decisions. Starting from the observations of the confidence building through information in the real world, we identify and classify the potentials of information systems in facilitating trusting decision in virtual environments such as the Internet.
- KonferenzbeitragModeling service-flow(Information Systems Technology and its Applications, international conference ISTA'2001, 2001) Klischewski, Ralf; Wetzel, Ingrid; Baharami, AliAs e-business is invading the service industry and the public sector, there is a need for a service-flow management of those processes, which consist of a sequence of interrelated sub-services. Making use of the potentials of internet applications, service-flow management aims at providing these service in an effi- cient manner, at improving customer relationship management in the field of ten- sion between routine and situated/personalized service provision, and at providing flexible IT support for service providers and/or clients at each service point. Based on object oriented, workflow and user oriented modeling techniques, we model service-flow patterns by identifying sequences of service points, each capturing the specific service tasks and their respective pre- and post-conditions from the pro- vider’s point of view. This service-flow modeling approach may be supported by the modeling tools Visio® and Process@Work. We present some results from two cases of service-flow modeling, each with a short case description and a discussion of the models’ application for technical and orga nizational development.
- KonferenzbeitragMorph Gentzen plan computation(Information Systems Technology and its Applications, international conference ISTA'2001, 2001) Nourani, Cyrus F.; Moudi, R.M.New planning techniques with model diagrams and applications to computable models with morph Gentzen computing on relevant worlds are presented. Generic diagrams are applied to model computing with localized minimal efficient computable KR on AI worlds. Diagrammatic reasoning is defined in terms of inferences directed by the G-diagrams for models. G-diagrams are applied towards KR from planning with nondeterminism and planning with free proof trees and predictive diagrams. The IM Morph Gentzen Logic for computing for multimedia is the basis to new projects with important computing applications. The basic principles are a mathematical logic where a Gentzen or natural deduction systems is defined by taking arbitrary structures and multimedia objects coded by diagram functions. A specific sound and complete computing logic is applied to VR plans with Morph Gentzen as the basis.

- KonferenzbeitragCC/PP negotiation of a mobile station in MExE service environment(Information Systems Technology and its Applications, international conference ISTA'2001, 2001) Sihvonen, MarkusMExE (Mobile Execution Environment) is a standardised middleware platform in an MS (mobile station) where to execute 3rd generation applications and services regardless of the operating system. It is one of the 3GPP’s (third generation partnership project) VHE (Virtual Home Environment) toolkits, perhaps the most complex but also the most flexible and diversified one. It enables a dynamic download of applications to an MS at a users’ request. Currently, applications can be written in Java and WML (Wireless mark-up language), later possibly with many other programming languages. CC/PP (Composite Capability / Preference Profile) negotiation normally occurs prior to a download of an application to an MExE capable MS and it is used to define the right version of the requested service or application to that particular MS. Even though the technology is being under development particularly for 3rd generation mobile networks and MSs, it can be also applied to 2nd generation mobile technology. This paper focuses on CC/PP negotiation of the 3rd generation all IP (Internet protocol) MSs. The purpose is to identify problems of the CC/PP negotiation and to propose a solution for the negotiation strategy. At the very beginning, the problem area will be introduced to the reader.
- KonferenzbeitragInformation - Analytic system for problem solving of socioeconomic monitoring(Information Systems Technology and its Applications, international conference ISTA'2001, 2001) Chadyuk, A.; Borodkin, G.; Proskudina, G.The experience of creation and research of information - analytic system is discussed. The system is oriented towards a solution of socioeconomic problems. The report describes "Monitor 2.1" system, which have been developed for The Ministry of Economy of Autonomous Republic of Crimea. The report contents the principles and approaches to the development of the next version of that system – "Monitor 3.0". The concept of data warehouses is used for implementation of the last one. The needs for the solving of socioeconomic problems to integrate and accommodate large collection of socioeconomic data are discussed. The report contents a comparison between “Monitor 2.1” and "Monitor 3.0" systems. It shows the advantages of the "Monitor 3.0" system development approach. Papers summarize the last year’s author’s experience in the development of information - analytic systems for socioeconomic problems.
