With the digitalization-induced increase in continuously recorded mass data from a wide variety of sources, there is hope of obtaining better access to reality than ever before. In view of the big data phenomenon, retail companies are faced with the question of which company-wide data strategy to pursue. The following article establishes a framework to provide a logical structure for a company-wide data strategy. For each strategy field of this framework, basic decisions have to be made. This are the necessary prerequisites for the use of data within successful separated projects as well as the successful integration of data-driven activities into standard processes. In addition to the data strategy, a case study will be used to unfold the feasible business contribution for retailers. For this purpose, retail marketing and the marketing mix will be used as the central concept, which has always been one of the most important fields of activity in retail, to establish a data-driven decision phenomenology. In response to the question as to which data strategy should be pursued by a retailer in view of Big Data, various sub-areas and measures within these were identified and elaborated. It is shown that integrated and coherent measures at the organizational and technological levels are necessary for the collection, storage, processing, use, control and transformation of Big Data in a company. By fulfilling the necessary prerequisites for Big Data within the framework of the data strategy, it is not only possible to optimize the sales side of the company, but also to enable a profound integration of the various process areas within a retail company.
In the context of this contribution, modern information systems such as virtual assistants are to be examined for their support potential in local retail. Special attention is paid to the ability of these systems to cooperate. Good cooperation between the information system and retailers should be achieved in particular through good system-side emotional intelligence or good empathy. For this purpose, current approaches are considered, which aim to make emotions of information systems measurable and interpretable. In the course of these research efforts, expert interviews were conducted in the local retail sector of the city of Braunschweig to determine the needs and requirements for an empathic virtual assistant.
- KonferenzbeitragR3 – Resilient, Regional, Retail: Implementation of SusCRM Approach within a Local Retail Platform(EnviroInfo 2022, 2022) Haridas, Sarankumar; Schulte, Richard; Leibenath, Mattes; Wagner vom Berg, BenjaminCurrent consumption patterns in offline and online retailing pose challenges in terms of sustainability aspects such as overcoming the last mile, and product-related and energy-related environmental impacts. In the last decades, customers have changed their mindset from money to sustainability which includes e-Commerce neglecting the greenhouse gas emissions which is linked to the last mile delivery. Alternative choices of delivery method and individual mobility are resulting in different emissions. To bridge the gap this work investigates how to apply a SusCRM (Sustainability Customer Relationship Management) to a local retail platform to meet both customer expectations and sustainable and conscious consumption. An overview of potential incentive systems for implementation within a local e-marketplace is presented.
