The rising number of electrically powered vehicles (EV) challenges the distribution grid. Analyses revealed that the uncoordinated, simultaneous charging results in heavy load. This load leads to further increase of the already existing load peaks and thus to an even greater strain on the distribution grid. These effects can be counteracted by a system for coordinated vehicle charging. Interfaces are necessary to enable the user to communicate with the charging system. Based on the information provided by customers, network operators, and energy suppliers, an optimized schedule for EV charging can be created. Furthermore it is possible to react on unforeseen events in order to ensure a high level of power quality.
