- ZeitschriftenartikelDie österreichische Softwarebranche: Marktstruktur und Umfeldanalyse(Wirtschaftsinformatik: Vol. 45, No. 1, 2003) Bernroider, Edward W. N.This paper describes the results from an empirical study of the Austrian software industry, comprising the following areas: market structure and segments, external and internal environmental analysis. With the aid of a questionnaire a random sample of key executives in 174 Austrian software enterprises were interviewed. Data was analysed using descriptive, bi- and multi-variate statistical techniques. The results shown in particular include supplier structures and the relative relevance attached to certain product segments. The external environmental analysis comprises the identification of exogenous growth barriers, the internal analysis shows endogenous deficiencies and strengths. Therefore internal success factors, business process and product characteristics such as the rate of certified companies with respect to industry process quality standards (ISO, CMM) and key figures were analysed. Differences between micro, small, medium and large enterprises were also detailed in regard to all investigated research areas.
- KonferenzbeitragResolving Indifferences in Multiple Attribute Business Information System Selection with Social Choice Methods(Information systems technology and its applications – 6th international conference – ISTA 2007, 2007) Bernroider, Edward W. N.; Mitlöhner, JohannThe evaluation of Information Systems (IS) is a critical process for the successful development of any organizational IT capability. An important class of decision making techniques used in practice is based on conflicting criteria applied to the available alternatives, and the results are consolidated into a single ranking. In this process it is often the case that investment alternatives receive equal evaluations for some of the criteria. In this work various methods of social choice voting rules are considered that accept criteria rankings with indifferences for rank aggregation in two case studies. The properties of the results they deliver are compared with the outcomes of traditional multiple attribute decision making, taking special note of the resolving of indifferences.
- KonferenzbeitragSocial choice aggregation methods for multiple attribute business information system selection(Business Information Systems – 9th International Conference on Business Information Systems (BIS 2006), 2006) Bernroider, Edward W. N.; Mitlöhner, JohannThis paper targets the area of business Information System (IS) decision making, where accountable and understandable decision support is needed for all involved stakeholders. When information systems investments are evaluated based on applying different dimensions or attributes to the available alternatives the results have to be consolidated into a single ranking to provide a base for the investment decision. This consolidation itself is a multiple attribute decision problem. In this work the situation is perceived from a social choice point of view; a number of voting rules are described that can be applied to this task. The properties of the results they deliver are analyzed in an ex post case study, and are thereafter explored for typical business IS decisions in simulation analysis. From the latter, results include distance information based on the aggregation results for the set of considered voting rules, which, e.g, can be used to select a method mix for validating ranking outcomes. For the case study, results include rankings of the voting rules being contrasted to the outcome of the standard ranking and scoring technique applied in practice.
