    Automating Product Derivation in Software Product Line Engineering

    This paper deals with deriving software products from a software product line (SPL) in an efficient and automated way. We present an approach that (1) represents the SPL with a set of integrated models, (2) specifies variability and configuration options for possible product variants and (3) automatically derives executable products with model transformations and aspect-oriented techniques. The approach is discussed with a sample SPL of scientific calculators.

    Feature dependencies have to be managed throughout the whole product life-cycle

    In this position paper, we discuss feature dependencies as one major challenge in product line engineering. We suggest that (1) feature dependencies should be treated as first class entities and (2) dependencies in various artefacts across the software life cycle should be mapped onto each other.

    Guidance for Design Rationale Capture to Support Software Evolution

    Documenting design rationale (DR) helps to preserve knowledge over long time to diminish software erosion and to ease maintenance and refactoring. However, use of DR in practice is still limited. One reason for this is the lack of concrete guidance for capturing DR. This paper provides a first step towards identifying DR questions that can guide DR capturing and discusses required future research.
