- KonferenzbeitragConstraint checking for business process management(Informatik 2009 – Im Focus das Leben, 2009) Runte, Wolfgang; El Kharbili, MarwaneCompliance management tackles issues related to both modelling and enforcement of business constraints in enterprises. In the context of business process management, we propose and describe the use of constraint satisfaction problems as a formal mean for representing these business constraints. We propose a multi-level constraint satisfaction approach to handle different levels of abstraction in business process modelling. We elaborate on the modelling of compliance requirements using constraint satisfaction and discuss implications of this technique such as problem solving strategies. This work shows that a certain class of compliance problems which can be grounded to constraint satisfaction problems can be solved efficiently using the proposed approach.
- KonferenzbeitragOn leveraging business processes to deal with critical success factors(Informatik 2009 – Im Focus das Leben, 2009) Rusnjak, Andreas; El Kharbili, MarwaneEnvisioning business process management (BPM) as a management discipline bridging business and IT together brings certain advantages to enterprises. However, most research on BPM tackles process modelling by analyzing operational aspects and modelling corresponding workflows. Although additional aspects might be regarded, e.g. o rganizational and dec isional as pects, curr ent research on BPM only have limited support for enterprise strategy aspects. This paper researches methods and techniques for capturing and modelling critical success factors (CSFs) for enterprises, and maki ng th em manageable assets in busin ess processes. We propose the use o f the i*-framework for modelling CSFs and propose a method for enriching existing BPM notations with CSF models. The goal of this work is to bridge the gap between CSFs that enhance an enterprise’s competitiveness and the operation al bus iness proces ses that realize an enterprise’s added value.
