- KonferenzbeitragAuswirkungen des Kernenergieausstiegs auf die deutsche Elektrizitätswirtschaft vor dem Hintergrund des liberalisierten, europäischen Strommarkts(Umweltinformatik ’00 Umweltinformation für Planung, Politik und Öffentlichkeit, 2000) Enzensberger, Norbert; Fichtner, Wolf; Rentz, OttoFuture electricity generation in Germany is strongly influenced by the German nuclear phase-out plans, current market liberalisation efforts and emission reduction strategies. To evaluate the impact of the planned nuclear phase-out on the German power sector regarding costs, emissions and electricity imports/exports a scenario approach has been chosen. Calculations have been realised using the energy flow model PERSEUS-ICE. The model calculations show an increase in the total system costs of 55.4 billions DM due to the nuclear phase-out plans. Emission reduction costs to achieve the reduction targets fixed in the Kyoto protocol are also increased by additional 9,4 billions DM. Increased international power exchange will result in different power generation structures, will reduce electricity exports and favour the use of coal and lignite in power generation in Germany at the end of the time horizon. In the middle-term gas-fired combined-cycle power plants will play an important role in power generation.
- KonferenzbeitragDevelopment of a dynamic content management system for the transfer of renewable energy knowledge between Europe and South East Asia(Sh@ring – EnviroInfo 2004, 2004) Möst, Dominik; Fichtner, Wolf; Rentz, OttoTo transfer experiences made in the European power markets on success factors and market potentials of renewable energy projects to Southeast Asia, the ASEM Green IPP (Independent Power Producers) network has set up a thematic network on Green IPPs that focuses on renewable energy projects linking researchers, industry representatives, policy makers and NGOs from Europe and Southeast Asia. One main objective of this Green IPP-network is to transfer knowledge and experiences of Green IPPs between Europe and Southeast Asia. An overview of Green IPPs in Asia and Europe was generated with regard to successful project structures, innovative financing schemes, and policy options to support a successful market penetration of Green IPPs. Derived from this global goal, a website was created to serve as representation outwards as well as communication platform for the project itself.
The energy-emission models of the PERSEUS program package aim to deliver decision support for ecopolitical issues on national, regional and utility level. While the model version PERSEUS-MIP distinguishes aggregated technologies and discrete units, the focus of PERSEUS-GWI lies in the integration of greenhouse-gases. The model PERSEUS-EVU describes the decision area of an electric utility. Besides the presentation of operational areas and results, the methodology for the integration of load curves is pointed out.
- KonferenzbeitragEntwicklung eines Instrumentariums zur Analyse überbetrieblicher Energiemanagementkonzepte(Umweltinformatik ’99 - Umweltinformatik zwischen Theorie und Industrieanwendung, 1999) Frank, Michael; Fichtner, Wolf; Wietschel, Martin; Rentz, Otto
- KonferenzbeitragEntwicklung eines optimierenden Energie- und Stoffflussmodells zur Analyse von Klimaschutzprojekten anhand von Nachhaltigkeitsindikatoren (03/07/2001)(Sustainability in the Information Society, 2001) Graehl, Sven; Fichtner, Wolf; Göbelt, Mathias; Frank, Michael; Rentz, OttoBesides environmental additionality, contribution to sustainable development is a major criterion to be directed to projects aiming at reducing greenhouse gas emissions under the regime of flexible instruments. However, whereas various methodologies have been suggested on how to measure additionality of projects, sustainability of projects is onl y paid minor attention to. This may be explained by the multi dimensions and, consequently, by methodological problems with measuring sustainability, for instance. In this context, this paper presents an approach to integrating sustainability criteria into project assessment. The approach is based on an optimising energy and materials flow model which takes into account economic, ecological as well as social factors.
- ZeitschriftenartikelReducing energy time series for energy system models via self-organizing maps(it - Information Technology: Vol. 61, No. 2-3, 2019) Yilmaz, Hasan Ümitcan; Fouché, Edouard; Dengiz, Thomas; Krauß, Lucas; Keles, Dogan; Fichtner, WolfThe recent development of renewable energy sources (RES) challenges energy systems and opens many new research questions. Energy System Models (ESM) are important tools to study these problems. However, including RES into ESM strongly increases the model complexity, because one needs to model the fluctuant, weather-dependent electricity production from RES with a high level of granularity. This leads to long execution times. To deal with this issue, our objective is to reduce the input time series of ESM without losing their energy-related key characteristics, such as weather-dependent fluctuations in production or peak demands. This task is challenging, because of the variety and high-dimensionality of the data. We describe a carefully engineered data-processing pipeline to reduce energy time series. We use Self-Organizing Maps, a specific kind of neural network, to select “representative days”. We show that our approach outperforms the existing ones with respect to the quality of ESM results, and leads to a significant reduction of ESM execution times.
- KonferenzbeitragUse of the PERSEUS Models to Analyse the Effects of Large-Scale Renewable Energy Production(The Information Society and Enlargement of the European Union, 2003) Rosen, Johannes; Möst, Dominik; Fichtner, Wolf; Rentz, OttoDuring the last decade, the European energy supply sector has faced far-reaching structural changes that have led to new market structures and a new competitive environment. The current discussion on emission reduction targets and climate change mitigation strategies is likely to cause new changes in the competitive environment of energy supply companies. Renewable energies play a significant role to achieve these targets. The energy models described in this paper provide powerful analysis options that permit an examination of the effects of a large-scale integration of renewable energies into the European energy system. To realise this objective, the energy system analysis models follow a technology-based modelling approach employing linear programming methods. In this paper, a version of the PERSEUS model under development in an application to analyse the influence of a large-scale integration of fluctuating wind energy into the European power system is presented. Furthermore, a second application, where two versions of the PERSEUS model are currently combined to determine which new possibilities and tasks result from the changing capacity structure for traditional water power plants in the Alps, is presented as well.
