- KonferenzbeitragEnvironmental Markup Language (EML): A Material and Energy Balancing XML Schema Definition(Environmental Informatics and Industrial Ecology, 2008) Arndt, Hans-Knud; Graubitz, Henner; Dammert, AndreasFor a systematic evaluation of an organizations’ environmental performance methods for data pooling are needed so that data about services, or the production of goods can be collected and the evaluation of the associated environment is possible. This information gain is the base for improvements of the environmental performance and supports the top management in its strategic planning. One useful method can be seen in a material and energy balancing which enables organizations to operationalize environmental protection. Due to the often heterogeneous information and communication technologies (ICT) systems in organizations a general practical exchange format for the representation and processing of material and energy information is required. Therefore this publication describes the development of an XML schema definition for material and energy balancing. The development of this XML schema definition is based on the DIN EN ISO 14040:2006 standard according to Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and includes the linkage between ecologic and economic information.
- KonferenzbeitragSustainability Reporting Topic Maps: An Approach to Support Stakeholder Inclusiveness(Environmental Informatics and Systems Research, 2007) Arndt, Hans-Knud; Graubitz, Henner; Klesinski, ReneThis article propose a method of how to produce and conceive an Internet-based sustainability report. After the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) created the inalterable representation of the third output of GRI-guidelines companies begin to create sustainability reports and publish it via the world wide web. But thinking about that these reports are divided into different environmental messages a typical interested person will be confronted with too much information. Typically this results in an unperceptive view of all environmental task which are related to each other. Using the eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) we suggest a method of how to alter sustainability reports into Topic Maps (XTM).
- KonferenzbeitragTopic Map based Indicator System for Environmental Management Systems(Environmental Informatics and Industrial Ecology, 2008) Arndt, Hans-Knud; Graubitz, Henner; Jacob, StephanTry to reach a particular goal in an environmental management system should be associated with strategies, e.g. for environmental goals, or for environmental policies. Sustainable protection can be achieved so that public environmental departments get the possibility to have a better costs control about planning, doing and checking measurements, or organizations have the possibility to control influences onto its internal and external interrelated processes. But in reality in environmental management systems strategies are unclear, or miss totally. This paper describes how these systems can fill this gap, and derive strategies by linking the fundamentals of the management instrument "Balanced Scorecards" and the semantic network standard ISO/IEC 13250 for Topic Maps together.
- KonferenzbeitragEin Umweltziel- und Kennzahlensystem für die Umweltverwaltung auf der Basis von Topic Maps(Workshop des Arbeitskreises „Umweltdatenbanken / Umweltinformationssysteme“ der Fachgruppe „Informatik im Umweltschutz“, 2008) Arndt, Hans-Knud; Jacob, Stephan; Graubitz, HennerAbstract Given strategies, e.g. for environmental policies or environmental goals are one of the most successful tools to realize sustainable environmental protection. For organizations it is possible to coordinate internal and external relationships resulting in reactions onto these influences; for public environmental departments it is a perfect verification which environmental precautions should be followed and which costs for planning, doing and checking will be accrued. But beside these facts in the real world there still exist non-clear environmental orientated strategies or miss totally. With this paper we represent an idea of how to use the fundamentals of the management instrument "Balanced Scorecards" and one of the semantic network standards ISO/IEC 13250 for Topic Maps and derive strategies and goals from only modeled general conditions.
