- KonferenzbeitragIdentification of technology trends for effective policing(INFORMATIK 2024, 2024) Morgenstern, Martin; Honekamp, WilfriedThe rapid development of technology requires law enforcement to continuously adapt its strategies and procedures. Technology radars are important instruments for technology monitoring. A technology radar is a strategic tool that is used to systematically identify, analyse and evaluate new technological developments. It enables organisations to gain an overview of current and future technology trends, provides a structure to categorise potential developments, and assesses their potential relevance and impact for law enforcement. The methodology behind a technology radar usually involves the collection and filtering of information, the assessment of technologies in terms of their relevance and maturity, and finally, the creation of a visual tool that processes this information for strategic decision-making processes. This contribution looks at various methods for early technology identification and assessment. The suitability of these methods for technology monitoring in the field of law enforcement is analysed and evaluated on the basis of defined criteria.
- KonferenzbeitragRequirements for a public digital forensics cloud(INFORMATIK 2023 - Designing Futures: Zukünfte gestalten, 2023) Morgenstern, Martin; Honekamp, WilfriedThe acquisition of digital evidence in criminal proceedings has become considerably more important in recent years. At the same time, the amount of data has also increased. The need to use cloud or big data solutions for digital forensics to be able to efficiently process the permanently increasing amount of data and number of cases has been recognised for years. By using public cloud providers, such as Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure, to secure and analyse digital evidence, resources could be used in a scalable and flexible way. Forensic service providers have had to keep a large number of data carriers for forensic backups because they have to be available immediately in case of an emergency and cannot be procured only when needed.
