- KonferenzbeitragBPMN4SGA: A BPMN Extension for Smart Glasses Applications to enable Process Visualisations(Workshops der INFORMATIK 2018 - Architekturen, Prozesse, Sicherheit und Nachhaltigkeit, 2018) Vogel, Jannis; Zobel, Benedikt; Jannaber, Sven; Thomas, OliverNew mobile technologies such as smart glasses cannot be described adequately with standard process modelling languages. This leads to insufficient process documentation, hindering a correct integration of these technologies in business processes. In this paper, we focus explicitly on smart glasses-based processes. We analyse the domain of smart glasses-based processes and develop a smart glasses-based process ontology. Furthermore, we investigate smart glasses-based process concepts and BPMN concepts semantically. Thereby, extension requirements for a new BPMN extension are derived in the domain of smart glasses, using the method for domain-specific development of BPMN extensions. In addition, we include model-driven software development concepts. Finally, we present a part of the graphical syntax with an exemplary smart glasses-based process and the connection with the model-driven architecture.

- TextdokumentDevelopment of a Domain-Specific Language for Run-Time Process Modelling(INFORMATIK 2017, 2017) Jannaber, Sven; Zobel, Benedikt; Riehle, Dennis M.; Thomas, Oliver; Becker, JörgWearable devices pose novel challenges to the BPM field. The advanced functionality in combination with the increased mobility has rendered devices such as smart glasses particularly suited for mobile process support. However, whereas this support is predominantly limited to information provision and workflow management, the glasses’ capability to be utilized for actual process modelling has yet to be investigated. As a first step, this paper proposes an outlook on the development of a process modelling language that is specifically tailored towards the application domain smart glasses and can be applied for both modelling and representing business processes using a glasses-based modelling environment. A demonstration case is provided to highlight the utilization of process modelling on smart glasses.
- KonferenzbeitragDevelopment of a prototype for Smart Glasses-based process modelling(Modellierung 2018, 2018) Jannaber, Sven; Zobel, Benedikt; Berkemeier, Lisa; Thomas, OliverThe integration of mobile technology is considered a major challenge for the BPM domain. Wearable devices such as smart glasses have already been successfully applied in high-mobility fields as technical services. However, the utilization of smart glasses to document and model processes still remains on a conceptual level and has not yet been instantiated. To this end, the paper demonstrates a prototype that enables the usage of smart glasses for process modelling. It is shown how glasses-specific functionality e.g. voice recognition and audio/video recording can incorporated into a modelling environment that facilitates the run-time modelling of processes, even for modelling novices.
- KonferenzbeitragInvigorating event-driven process chains - towards an integrated meta model for EPC standardization(Modellierung 2016 - Workshopband, 2016) Jannaber, Sven; Karhof, Arne; Riehle, Dennis M.; Thomas, Oliver; Delfmann, Patrick; Becker, JörgWhen deciding about appropriate modelling languages, the degree of standardization often represents an important decision criterion. Although the EPC is commonly used for process modelling in the last decades, the absence of an official standard leads more and more to its nonconsideration. A coherent meta model is a pillar for the specification of process modelling languages. Accordingly, this work builds the basis for further standardization by providing an integrated meta model for the EPC. The resulting meta model therefore supports the invigoration of the EPC by impelling the future standardization effort.
- ZeitschriftenartikelThe Next Generation – Design and Implementation of a Smart Glasses-based Modelling System(Enterprise Modelling and Information Systems Architectures (EMISAJ) – International Journal of Conceptual Modeling: Vol. 13, Nr. 18, 2018) Metzger, Dirk; Niemöller, Christina; Jannaber, Sven; Berkemeier, Lisa; Brenning, Lukas; Thomas, OliverTechnical services in innovative business models are becoming increasingly complex. Thus, comprehensive IT-support is crucial for service delivery. Content for those IT-support systems is captured by modelling relevant service processes. Aside the intangibility and integrativity, services are characterized by the complexity of their structure. So, the traditional modelling approaches executed by modelling experts are challenging. To overcome those challenges, we developed a concept to model service processes at the point-of-service while executing the service itself. The process executer (e. g. the technician) is empowered by smart glasses that do not limit his scope of actions. Additionally, the glasses guide through the (runtime) modelling and allow easy capturing of service processes during the execution. We followed a design science-oriented approach. First, we identified relevant process blocks from literature for runtime modelling (analysis). Afterwards, we built related software components for the process blocks (design). We do so by proposing an implementation and an architecture for a smart glasses-based modelling system. Finally, we evaluated the concept by prototyping and demonstrating the system by means of a real-world service process (evaluation). Our approach tackles challenges on how new technology can enhance the modelling at the point-of-service, which process blocks are relevant and how domain experts can be integrated into the modelling process itself. The practical implications are towards new chances of capturing processes.
- KonferenzbeitragOn the de-facto standard of event-driven process chains: how EPC is defined in literature(Modellierung 2016, 2016) Riehle, Dennis M.; Jannaber, Sven; Karhof, Arne; Thomas, Oliver; Delfmann, Patrick; Becker, JörgThe Business Process Modelling Notation (BPMN) and the Event-driven Process Chain (EPC) are both frequently used modelling languages to create business process models. While there is a well-defined standard for BPMN, such a standard is missing for EPC. As a standard would be beneficial to improve interoperability among different vendors, this paper aims at providing the means for future EPC standardization. Therefore, we have conducted a structured literature review of the most common EPC variants in IS research. We provide a structured overview of the evolution of different EPC variants, describe means and capabilities and elaborate different criteria for decision-making in regard to including EPC variants in a standardization process.
- KonferenzbeitragOn the de-facto standard of event-driven process chains: reviewing EPC implementations in process modelling tools(Modellierung 2016, 2016) Karhof, Arne; Jannaber, Sven; Riehle, Dennis M.; Thomas, Oliver; Delfmann, Patrick; Becker, JörgNowadays, most process modelling tools implement popular modelling languages such as the Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) or the Event-driven Process Chain (EPC). However, in contrast to BPMN, no effort has yet been undertaken to standardize the EPC language, thus rendering EPCs as being merely a de-facto standard for business process modelling. Subsequently, this paper addresses this issue by laying ground for a successful EPC standardization. To achieve this task, several process modelling tools have been evaluated regarding their implementation of the EPC language with the objective to derive consensus about important language constructs. The evaluation reveals that there is a high degree of variety in the way tools implement EPCs. Especially syntax, semantic and pragmatic of the EPC language are not perceived homogenously and, in fact, commonly neglected. Hence, our research provides valuable implications for further EPC standardization by highlighting the state-of-the-art of the EPC from a software point of view.
- ZeitschriftenartikelProcess Modeling Recommender Systems - A Generic Data Model and Its Application to a Smart Glasses-based Modeling Environment(Business & Information Systems Engineering: Vol. 60, No. 1, 2018) Fellmann, Michael; Metzger, Dirk; Jannaber, Sven; Zarvic, Novica; Thomas, OliverThe manual construction of business process models is a time-consuming, error-prone task and presents an obstacle to business agility. To facilitate the construction of such models, several modeling support techniques have been suggested. However, while recommendation systems are widely used, e.g., in e-commerce, these techniques are rarely implemented in process modeling tools. The creation of such systems is a complex task since a large number of requirements and parameters have to be taken into account. In order to improve the situation, the authors have developed a data model that can serve as a backbone for the development of process modeling recommender systems (PMRS). This article outlines the systematic development of this model in a stepwise approach using established requirements and validates it against a data model that has been reverse-engineered from a real-world system. In a last step, the paper illustrates an exemplary instantiation of the data model in a Smart Glasses-based modeling environment and discusses business process agility issues. The authors expect their contribution to provide a useful starting point for designing the data perspective of process modeling recommendation features that support business agility in process-intensive environments.
