    Designing positive experience for nurses in intensive care

    Decision support systems in intensive care units are developed with safety, efficiency, and effectiveness in mind. In contrast, user experience (UX) for decision support systems has received limited attention in practice and research. In this paper, we present an application of the Experience Design approach from Hassenzahl [8] for a clinical decision support system (CDSS) for volume therapy - the administration of intravenous fluids - in intensive care units. In semi-structured interviews with five nurses, we gathered nurses' work activities around volume therapy, which are perceived as particularly beneficial for their well-being. Lead by the narratives gathered in the interviews we designed positive experience through the CDSS. The resulting concept of a CDSS for nurses aims to create a positive experience during volume therapy, which is supported by addressing and fulfilling the needs for competence and popularity.

    Next Level Personas – Mache Empathie zu deiner Superkraft und entdecke neue Workshop-Formate

    Wie können wir Personas stärker in den Designprozess einbinden? Welche Methoden sind für unser Projekt geeignet? Und wie begeistern wir alle Stakeholder von Personas? Angesichts dieser und weiterer Herausforderungen, denen wir in unseren Projekten tagtäglich begegnen, beschlossen wir, die Verwendung von Personas als wertvolles Werkzeug für den gesamten Entwicklungsprozess zu erforschen: Im Rahmen einer qualitativen Studie untersuchen wir zur Zeit, wie sowohl UX Designer*innen als auch Expert*innen aus anderen Branchen in der Praxis mit Personas arbeiten. Ziel unserer Nachforschungen ist es, innovative und adaptive Bausteine zu einer ganzheitlichen Persona-Methodik zusammenzufügen. In diesem Workshop wollen wir die Ergebnisse unserer ersten qualitativen und einer darauf aufbauenden Online-Studie mit euch diskutieren. Anschließend möchten wir in einem kollaborativen Teil die praktische Anwendung neuer Ansätze mithilfe von Kreativmethoden ideieren, iterieren und bewerten.

    Using Tag Clouds to Explore Text Documents on Small Mobile Devices

    In this paper, we present a novel interactive tag cloud to explore large text documents on small mobile devices. While tag clouds have been popular in the World Wide Web for many years, a systematic adaptation of their properties to the requirements of small devices has yet not been addressed. With our work, we apply tag clouds to access conference proceedings on a mobile device. In a user-centered design process we derived design guidelines and evaluated a working prototype. Our results reveal that mobile tag clouds work well with a maximum of 25 tags per cloud, that they can be segmented into sub tag clouds, and that users prefer the selection of multiple tags to refine the result list of articles.
