- KonferenzbeitragAutomated Contract Conclusion for the Support of Multi Utility Markets and Virtual Power Plants(Informatics for Environmental Protection - Networking Environmental Information, 2005) Dietrich, Antje; Kazakos, WassiliThe field of application of the automated contract conclusion are multi utility markets and virtual power plants. We describe an information technological and legal perspective in order to enable decentralized sustainable generation. For the realization of multi utility markets and virtual power plants we draw on a peer-to-peer infrastructure. We focus on market legal coverage to manage the distributed generation units and we concentrate the consideration on the combination of power and heat. This contribution represents results of the project SESAM.
- KonferenzbeitragCoastBase – The Virtual European Coastal and Marine Data Warehouse(Umweltinformatik ’00 Umweltinformation für Planung, Politik und Öffentlichkeit, 2000) Kazakos, Wassili; Kramer, Ralf; Schmidt, AndreasCoastBase is a project within the IST programme of the European Commission, which started at the beginning of this year. CoastBase aims to improve European marine and coastal management with regard both to the search for and access to a broad range of information sources. In this paper we present the project's main objective, which is the development of a user friendly, virtual, multilingual, multi-platform, Internet-accessible architecture for searching and querying distributed coastal and marine information sources.
- KonferenzbeitragCoDecS: A Multi Protocol Platform for Environmental Emergency Notification and Handling(Umweltinformatik ’98 - Vernetzte Strukturen in Informatik, Umwelt und Wirtschaft - Computer Science for Environmental Protection ’98 - Networked Structures in Information Technology, the Environment and Business, 1998) Gabel, Peter; Kazakos, Wassili; Kramer, Ralf; de Vries, GerhardEmergency support systems have to provide information on environmental emergencies timely and reliable. In order to fulfil these requirements, different technical means can be used. In this paper, we describe CoDecS, the multi protocol platform for the European Commission Urgent Radiological Information Exchange (ECURIE). Technically, CoDecS is based on the programming language Java, Java Remote Method Invocation (RMI), Java Database Connectivity (JDBC), and Java Beans, ISDN as the communication backbone, and Telex as the low tech backup communication means. We present the requirements, the overall approach, important aspects of the communication, and the software architecture. One of the major highlights of CoDecS is its unique combination of Java and Telex.
- KonferenzbeitragWWW-UDK 4.0: Die neue Generation eines WebPortals zu deutschen und österreichischen Umweltdaten(Umweltinformatik ’99 - Umweltinformatik zwischen Theorie und Industrieanwendung, 1999) Nikolai, Ralf; Kazakos, Wassili; Kramer, Ralf; Behrens, Sven; Swoboda, Walter; Kruse, FredSince its introduction in 1995 the environmental data catalogue UDK (Umweltdatenkatalog) has become a de-facto standard for environmental meta-information in German and Austrian governmental organisations. During the last year, the fourth generation of WWW-UDK, a tool for publishing UDK data on the Web, was developed based on a careful user requirement analysis. A complete redesign of the software makes possible that on the one hand advanced Internet technologies could be employed and on the other hand the various requirements of the different user groups could be fulfilled. To do so, three main components have been developed: (1) HTML-UDK which provides full retrieval functionality and requires minimal client equipment only. (2) J-UDK, an integrated Java applet of graphical, interactive tools for advanced users. (3) Virtual UDK which provides for the first time searches over distributed UDK data of different catalogues. Furthermore the interaction of WWW-UDK and WinUDK is presented.
- KonferenzbeitragXML based Virtual Catalogue Module in CoastBase(Sustainability in the Information Society, 2001) Kazakos, Wassili; Schmidt, Andreas; Paoli, HeikoCoastBase is a project that aims to device a system for European marine and coastal management, concerning both the search for and access to a broad range of information sources. In this paper, one central part of the overall system, the virtual catalogue module, will be presented. It facilitates the search through distributed and heterogeneous information sources by implementing an I3 Reference Architecture. In contrast to most other approaches of this type, the XML extreme approach we have chosen allows highest possible modularisation and configuration of the system almost wholly without programming. The XML extreme approach means that XML Schema is used to define the vocabulary, XSL-T is used for the transformations and the querying and visualisation of the results is also XML based. Within this service-oriented architecture, SOAP is used for communication.
