- KonferenzbeitragBusiness process support using RFID-based information services in the distribution of fresh fruits and vegetables(Qualität und Effizienz durch informationsgestützte Landwirtschaft, Fokus: Moderne Weinwirtschaft, 2011) Reiche, Robert; Lehmann, Richard J.; Fritz, Melanie; Schiefer, GerhardThe efficient distribution of fresh produce poses many challenges to enterprises in the fruit and vegetable sector. The exchange of productand processrelated information between actors in this network is crucial for improvement of process efficiency. In this paper we discuss a conceptual organization scheme for RFID-based business information services for improving food safety and increasing efficiency in the distribution process along the supply chain. The discussed business information service organization is of generic nature and can be adapted to other food supply networks as well.
- KonferenzbeitragInformation services for agri-food supply chains – a framework for development -(Qualität und Effizienz durch informationsgestützte Landwirtschaft, Fokus: Moderne Weinwirtschaft, 2011) Lehmann, Richard J.; Reiche, Robert; Fritz, Melanie; Schiefer, GerhardSeveral global developments such as the growing demand for bioenergy, limits in the availability of water and diminishing production resources as well as sector-wide crises (e.g. BSE, swine fever, dioxin) have led to a changing attitude of society towards the consequences of the food system`s activities for social, economic and environmental issues, captured in the term of sustainability. As a consequence, consumers show increasing interest in the characteristics of food, and in turn, on the availability of related information and guarantees. Enterprises in agri-food supply chains are facing new expectations and are seeking to communicate social, economic and environmental performance of their business to customers within the supply chain and consumers as the final customers. Information services, since they are mainly building on existing systems, could provide flexible solutions for enterprises to measure and evaluate sustainability of products throughout a food supply chain. Gained information on product characteristics might be used for decision support within enterprises as well as for communication of sustainable practices to customers and consumers, resulting in increased competitiveness of enterprises, supply chains and the sector by satisfying customers' and consumers' need for information on the sustainability of a product. This paper will introduce a framework for developing information services for agri-food supply chains by identifying and defining different types of information models and gaps, which need to be considered when developing an information service.
- KonferenzbeitragVisions for creating food awareness with future Internet technologies(Informationstechnologie für eine nachhaltige Landbewirtschaftung – Fokus: Forstwirtschaft, 2012) Reiche, Robert; Lehmann, Richard J.; Schiefer, GerhardThe consumer demand is following multi-dimensional criteria for food product characteristics. These characteristics include the dimensions quality, safety and integrity of food products. Consumers' expectations and information needs in these areas are changing quickly and force agri-food enterprises to collect and provide reliable information on demand for products they are offering. Today, new solutions are emerging based on mobile devices and applications helping consumers to understand the characteristics of food products they are consuming. However, the information provided by these apps today is limited to information that has to be provided on a legal basis and is not completely covering the different dimensions of consumers' information needs. This paper is linking the previous described information needs with technical measures to create awareness for food products at the company as well as the consumers' level.
