- Konferenzbeitrag3D representation of business process models(Modellierung betrieblicher Informationssysteme (MobIS 2008), 2008) Betz, Stefanie; Eichhorn, Daniel; Hickl, Susan; Klink, Stefan; Koschmider, Agnes; Li, Yu; Oberweis, Andreas; Trunko, Ralf3D technologies open up new possibilities for modeling business processes. They provide higher plasticity and eliminate some deficits of conventional 2D process modeling such as the limitation of the amount of information to be integrated into a process model in an understandable way. The aim of this paper is to show how the usage of an additional visual modeling dimension may support users in compactly representing and animating business process models. For this purpose, we propose an approach for 3D representation of business process models based on Petri nets. The need for the third modeling dimension is pointed out with three modeling scenarios for which we propose modeling improvements in 3D space. Early evaluations indicate the effectiveness of our approach, which goes beyond conventional modeling tools for business processes.
- KonferenzbeitragA normative language approach to the application of Petri nets for clinical workflows(Informatik 2005 – Informatik Live! Band 2, 2005) Sarshar, Kamyar; Loos, PeterThis contribution discusses the application of Petri nets for modeling workflow in healthcare based on a normative language approach. After a brief introduction, a framework of different abstraction levels covering clinical workflow representation to workflow implementation is presented. In order to use the object Petri nets formalism for clinical workflow representation at the conceptual level of the framework, a healthcare specific net interpretation of these Petri nets is introduced which maps healthcare terms to formal object Petri net elements.

- KonferenzbeitragAutomated assessment of process modeling exams: basic ideas and prototypical implementation(Modellierung 2016 - Workshopband, 2016) Thaler, Tom; Houy, Constantin; Fettke, Peter; Loos, PeterThe assessment of process modeling exams is a time consuming and complex task. It is desirable to give each student a detailed feedback on their solution in terms of syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic quality. It is obvious that especially in the case of mass courses with hundreds of participants, individual grading of modeling exams by humans is challenging: Besides reliability, consistency, and validity, the efficiency of the grading process must be guaranteed. Against that background, this paper aims at developing first ideas for an automated assessment of process modeling exams. The goal is to improve modeling education while teaching students not only to model correctly but to develop good models. Our ideas were prototypically implemented and applied in an exemplary scenario with promising results. It was possible to identify limitations but also to derive reliable semi-automated approaches for the assessment of process modeling exams.
- KonferenzbeitragBusiness process compliance checking: Current state and future challenges(Modellierung betrieblicher Informationssysteme (MobIS 2008), 2008) Kharbili, Marwane el; Medeiros, Ana Karla Alves de; Stein, Sebastian; Aalst, Wil M. P. van derRegulatory compliance sets new requirements for business process management (BPM). Companies seek to enhance their corporate governance processes and are required to put in place measures for ensuring compliance to regulations. In this sense, this position paper (i) reviews the current work in the context of BPM systems and (ii) suggests future directions to improve the current status. During the literature review, techniques are classified as supporting forward or backward compliance. The latter is a post-execution compliance (i.e. based on execution histories of systems) and the former takes place at designor run-time. In a nutshell, this position paper claims that four main aspects need to be incorporated by current compliance checking techniques: (i) an integrated approach able to cover the full BPM life-cycle, (ii) the support for compliance checks beyond control-flow-related aspects, (iii) intuitive graphical notations for business analysts, and (iv) embedding semantic technologies during the definition, deployment and executions of compliance checks.
- KonferenzbeitragComponents for growing the RESTful enterprise(Modellierung betrieblicher Informationssysteme (MobIS 2008), 2008) Heil, Andreas; Meinecke, Johannes; Gaedke, MartinFor a modern enterprise, it is vital to be on the Web. Beyond offering human-readable Web sites, organizations increasingly use the Web as a media for machine-readable data about itself. With the help of technologies like XML feeds, RESTful Web services and semantic markup, new forms of enterprises models emerge in a bottom-up way. These models are easily consumable and facilitate the interaction with departments, partners and customers. Engineering good publishing systems is however extremely challenging. On the one hand, knowledge of many technologies is required; on the other hand, it must be easy to extend systems and data models in accordance to agile businesses. In this paper, we propose a framework of components for publishing dynamically growing enterprise models on the Web, present an implemented system and discuss its use in a case study.
- KonferenzbeitragControl-flow representation of business processes – an empirical comparison of connectors vs. token game(Modellierung 2006, 2006) Sarshar, Kamyar; Loos, PeterA number of process modelling notations use connectors for the representation of the control-flow while others apply the token game. There are number of good arguments in favour as well as against each to these two ways of representing the control-flow. This contribution describes the results of an empirical comparison of these two approaches from the end-used perspective. The overall outcome of the experiment supports the assumption that notations applying connectors are superior to the token game-based notations in terms of end-user comprehension at the conceptual modelling level.
- KonferenzbeitragDesigning and utilising business indicator systems within enterprise models – Outline of a method(Modellierung betrieblicher Informationssysteme (MobIS 2008), 2008) Frank, Ulrich; Heise, David; Kattenstroth, Heiko; Schauer, HannoThe design of effective indicators and indicator systems requires a profound understanding of the relevant business context. Numerous relations and dependencies within an indicator system exist, which need to be analysed thoroughly: Many relations are based on implicit assumptions or sometimes not known by the management at all. This is of particular relevance for business success, since improperly used indicator systems may lead to `dysfunctional effects' like opportunistic behaviour. This paper outlines a method for designing and utilising indicator systems. It fosters a convenient and consistent definition and interpretation of indicator systems. Furthermore, it serves as a conceptual foundation for related performance management systems, such as dashboard systems.
- KonferenzbeitragE-Assessment-Plattform für die grafische Modellierung(20.
