- KonferenzbeitragSharing Laboratory Infrastructures for Integrating more Energy from Renewable Sources to the Grid - The FP7 project DERri - Distributed Energy Resources Research Infrastructure(Innovations in Sharing Environmental Observations and Information, 2011) Mrakotsky, Elisabeth; Mayr, Christoph; Stifter, Matthias; Strasser, ThomasFostering energy from distributed renewable sources is essential in order to reduce energy generation of fossil or nuclear provenance and smooth climate change. The quickly evolving performance and energy yields of renewable energy sources (RES) demand for the improvement of grid capabilities by means of ICT technologies, multifunctional power conversion devices and innovative control strategies. However, existing grids are limited for high penetration of decentralized power generation with fluctuating supplies from solar or wind energy. Therefore, the capacity and reliability of grids, and the operation and stability of the power system have to be proven by simulation and testing of new grid connected components with communication interface. The EU infrastructure project DERri (Distributed Energy Resources Research Infrastructures) [1], funded under FP7, allows users from research and industry temporary access and use of a network of 15 excellent laboratories across Europe to perform experimental investigations and compare and confirm results of their work. The paper gives an introduction on DERri background and network, it outlines the common findings and benefits in ICT research fields ”smart grids’ and ‘management, command and control of RES’ on shared use of infrastructures and informs about new calls for proposals to obtain trans-national access to laboratories under DERri. Furthermore, the interaction with another European activity, the project ‘Supporting Energy Efficiency in Smart GENeration Grids through ICT’ (SEESGEN-ICT), a thematic network funded under the CIP-ICT PSP by the European Commission, is highlighted.
