    Database System of Environmental Monitoring in the Czech Republic

    This paper presents the current state of the information system for administration of environmental monitoring data developed by Masaryk University in Brno (MU). The rising environmental database of MU can be considered as unique for the type and the quantity of stored data. The information system running over this database allows the management of monitoring projects, localities and samples and viewing of various data as well as exporting and simple analysis of the data. The paper describes the basic architecture of the developed information system and shows the most important parts of its data model. The system prototype is implemented as a web application for internal use at MU.

    Measurement of Workflow System Development

    Papers deals with cost estimation of workflow system development. A measurement of source code lines (COCOMO – Constructive Cost Model), function oriented metrics (FPA – Function Point Analysis) or metrics based on measurement of individual process activities (ABC – Activity Based Costing) can be used for this purpose. If the workflow system is mail based or document based then should be used COCOMO or Function Point Analysis. In the case of process based system the cost of process analysis and cost of process definition development can be estimated by using principles of Activity Based Costing.

    Open Source ICT Tools Overcoming Barriers in EMS Implementation and Amplifying Company Environmental Awareness

    The investigation of authors’ team among more than hundred companies of the Czech Republic, which have implemented Environmental Management System (EMS) had identified ten main barriers, which obstruct the adoption of EMS principles and decrease environmental awareness of internal interested parties. The conceptual model of creating/overcoming barriers in EMS implementation and its continuous improvement has been developed. It is based on five basic objects and five interconnected business processes and it is suitable for ICT implementation. The appropriate set of ICT tools and the prototype of a web-based information system which supports creating/overcoming barriers in the process of EMS implementation have been developed by using mainly Java technologies (the Java Server Pages use Tomcat as a servlet container and Apache as a web server). Companies can easily communicate and generate tailor-made EMS documents/records/reports containing information specific to different target groups (internal or external interested parties) to increase their environmental awareness. The developed prototype is open source and it has been tested in cooperation with ten chosen Czech companies.
