- KonferenzbeitragAn event-based archive of soft maps for the analysis of glacier changes(Sustainability in the Information Society, 2001) Carrara, Paola; Rampini, AnnaThis paper aims to describe a system for creating and managing archives of thematic maps obtained by classifying remote sensing images by soft computing techniques. Unlike traditional spatial approaches, the main key feature for query formulation is time, thus improving the investigation on changes occurred in time ranges. Both the functionalities of the system and the data structure on which it is based are described. The system has been tested in the monitoring of Alpine glacier variations: the validation methodology and its results are illustrated as well.
- KonferenzbeitragAn inventory of Alpine glaciers: an open software approach(Sh@ring – EnviroInfo 2004, 2004) Carrara, Paola; Fresta, Giuseppe; Poggioli, Daniela; Rampini, AnnaThis contribution describes a database to collect inventory data about Alpine glaciers derived from heterogeneous sources integrating field surveys and remote sensing. It follows principles of international projects in the field. To improve perception of ongoing phenomena in the Alps, an online viewer has been also implemented exploiting open, free and standard technologies. Its main goal is easiness of interaction and of message communication.
- KonferenzbeitragUser Requirements and User Strategy in the AWARE Project(Managing Environmental Knowledge, 2006) Carrara, Paolo; L'Astorina, Alba; Pepe, Monica; Poggioli, Daniela; Rampini, AnnaAWARE (A tool for monitoring and forecasting Available WAter REsource in mountain environment) is a Project in the VI Framework Programme of European Community. It started in July 2005 and aims at offering methods and tools to monitor and forecast the water resource from Alpine snowmelt by hydrologic models using input data derived from both in situ observations and Earth Observations (EO). In order to reach its objectives, AWARE needs strength collaboration with users. To this purpose activities to raise users’ interests, to meet users’ expectations and to spread Project achievements are planned. This paper describes the strategy used to collect user requirements within AWARE and illustrates some results of the user requirements analysis.
