The e-content domain extends over four application areas: air emission, air quality, topography and meteorology. The application framework to be developed includes metadata structures for all application areas, export and import filters, interfaces and various e-content basic services. The user community of the platform envisaged consists of city authorities, consultants involved in environmental impact assessment studies and citizens desiring valid information on the state of the environment. An electronic market place for the e-content itself and the services is also envisaged.

The motivation of this project lies in the need of European cities to perform assessments for complying with the EU environmental legislation, as well as the requirement for efficient environmental impact assessments. The e-content domain considered extends over four environmental application areas: air emission, air quality, topography, and meteorology. The application framework includes meta-data structures for these domains, export and import filters, interfaces and typical e-content services. The user community of the platform envisaged consists of city authorities, consultants involved in environmental impact assessment studies as well as citizens desiring valid information on the state of the atmospheric environment. An initial set of electronic information services is currently under development and will be demonstrated on the basis of the various user categories.

- KonferenzbeitragOn the Use of Abatement Cost Curves in Integrated Assessment Modelling – Implications of Dealing with Multi-pollutant Multi-effect Problems(Environmental Communication in the Information Society - Proceedings of the 16th Conference, 2002) Reis, Stefan; Nitter, Steffen; Friedrich, RainerThis paper critically reviews the current state-of-the-art of integrated assessment modelling (IAM) of air pollution control strategies based upon single abatement cost curves, elaborating on the specific implications of multi-pollutant multi-effect analysis for their further use in modelling studies. Starting from this analysis, a new approach towards modelling emission control options is discussed, which combines the concept of transparency and simplicity – among the most criticised aspects of current integrated assessment models – with a real-world modelling approach of abatement options, both technical and non-technical. In the second part of the paper, the application of evolutionary algorithms for IAM is described, giving a brief introduction of advantages and implementation in a currently running research project.
