- KonferenzbeitragAccess control for monitoring system-spanning business processes in proviado(Enterprise modelling and information systems architectures, 2009) Bassil, Sarita; Reichert, Manfred; Bobrik, Ralph; Bauer, ThomasIntegrated process support is highly desirable in environments where data related to a particular (business) process are scattered over distributed, heterogeneous information systems (IS). A process monitoring component is a much-needed module in order to provide an integrated view on all these process data. Regarding process data integration, access control (AC) issues are very important but also quite complex to be addressed. A major problem arises from the fact that the involved IS are usually based on heterogeneous AC components. For several reasons, the only feasible way to tackle the problem of AC at the process monitoring level is to define access rights for the process monitoring component, hence getting rid of the burden to map access rights from the IS level. This paper discusses requirements for AC in process monitoring, which we derived from our case studies in the automotive domain. It then presents alternative approaches for AC: the view-based and the object-based approach. The latter is retained, and a core AC model is proposed for the definition of access rights that meet the derived requirements. AC mechanisms provided within the core model are key ingredients for the definition of model extensions.
- KonferenzbeitragApplication and Testing of Business Processes in the Energy Domain(Datenbanksysteme für Business, Technologie und Web (BTW 2017) - Workshopband, 2017) Böhmer, Kristof; Stertz, Florian; Hildebrandt, Tobias; Rinderle-Ma, Stefanie; Eibl, Günther; Ferner, Cornelia; Burkhart, Sebastian; Engel, DominikThe energy domain currently struggles with radical legal and technological changes, such as, smart meters. This results in new use cases which can be implemented based on business process technology. Understanding and automating business processes requires to model and test them. However, existing process testing approaches frequently struggle with the testing of process resources, such as ERP systems, and negative testing. Hence, this work presents a toolchain which tackles that limitations. The approach uses an open source process engine to generate event logs and applies process mining techniques in a novel way.
- KonferenzbeitragApplication landscape metrics: overview, classification, and practical usage(Enterprise modelling and information systems architectures, 2009) Addicks, Jan Stefan; Gringel, PhilippDue to mergers and acquisitions as well as uncoordinated projects, application landscapes of today's organizations contain redundant applications (two or more applications that have similar functionality). To consolidate the application landscape, comparisons of applications have to be performed. Application landscape metrics are seen as an appropriate instrument for such comparisons. This contribution describes a method as well as a template to classify landscape metrics. In presenting a tool prototype, we provide a first glance of how to practically employ application landscape metrics.
- KonferenzbeitragArchitectural principles and components of adaptive process management technology(PRIMIUM - Process Innovation for Enterprise Software, 2009) Reichert, Manfred; Dadam, Peter; Rinderle-Ma, Stefanie; Jurisch, Martin; Kreher, Ulrich; Göser, KevinProcess-aware information systems (PAIS) must not freeze business processes, but should enable authorized users to deviate from the implemented workflows on-the-fly and to dynamically evolve them over time. While there has been a lot of work on the theoretical foundations of dynamic process changes, there is still a lack of implemented PAIS providing this dynamics. Designing the architecture of such adaptive PAIS, however, constitutes a big challenge due to the high complexity coming with dynamic changes. Besides this, performance, robustness, security and usability of the PAIS must not be affected by the added flexibility. In the AristaFlow project we follow a holistic approach to master this complexity. Based on a conceptual framework for adaptive process management, we have designed a sophisticated architecture for next generation process management technology. This paper discusses major design goals and basic architectural principles, gives insights into selected system components, and shows how change support features can be realized in an integrated and efficient manner.
- ZeitschriftenartikelBalancing Care and Paperwork(Enterprise Modelling and Information Systems Architectures (EMISAJ) – International Journal of Conceptual Modeling: Vol. 15, Nr. 11, 2020) Stertz, Florian; Mangler, Juergen; Rinderle-Ma, StefanieEffort and quality of care documentation are among the most pressing challenges in the nursing domain due to demographic development and compliance demands. Hence approaches for decreasing the effort of documentation while increasing its quality are required. This work introduces the idea of automatic task completion and documentation which is achieved through a process-aware solution where physical objects utilized during care tasks are equipped with NFC tags. Nine use cases from the care domain are identified with domain experts and implemented through a proof-of-concept prototype. The time reduction of employing this technology is assessed by domain experts within the typical routines in a nursing home. The interviews indicate an average decrease in documentation time per shift of more than 60%. Inherently also documentation quality is increased as automatic documentation prevents forgetting to document certain steps or other errors. On top, this work fosters two ways for comprehensive documentation, i.e., log-based documentation for analysis and monitoring tasks and paper-based documentation as typically expected by nurses. The logs are automatically created and stored by the underlying process engine. It is shown how paper-based documentation can be automatically created based on process logs. Overall, this work provides the basis for automatic, comprehensive, and continuous documentation of care tasks based on NFC technology.

- KonferenzbeitragBusiness Process Model Patterns: Classification and Repository of Published Work(40 Years EMISA 2019, 2020) Fellmann, Michael; Koschmider, Agnes; Laue, Ralf; Schoknecht, Andreas; Vetter, ArthurPatterns have gained widespread interest and acceptance in various domains. Originating from architecture, patterns are nowadays also suggested as solution templates for various problems related to Business Process Management. Due to the abundance of pattern works, getting an overview on available works or searching for specific patterns can be very difficult. What is missing is an instrument for easy exploration and search. To mitigate this problem, we classified published works on pattern and developed a repository for business process model pattern works. The repository is publicly available and enables browsing and filtering of pattern works according to criteria recently developed by analyzing 280 pattern works.
- ZeitschriftenartikelCatchword: Blockchains and Enterprise Modeling(Enterprise Modelling and Information Systems Architectures (EMISAJ) – International Journal of Conceptual Modeling: Vol. 15, Nr. 16, 2020) Fill, Hans-Georg; Fettke, Peter; Rinderle-Ma, StefanieIn this catchword article we describe the current technological opportunities that are available through blockchain technologies and outline how the field of enterprise modeling can contribute to these developments as well as benefit itself from them. For this purpose, we discuss the technical foundations of blockchains and derive a framework for relating both sides. Finally, it is reported about recent approaches that already engage in these opportunities.
- KonferenzbeitragCo-evolution in Business Ecosystems: Findings from Literature(40 Years EMISA 2019, 2020) Riasanow, Tobias; Flötgen, Rob Jago; Greineder, Michael; Möslein, Dominik; Böhm, Markus; Krcmar, HelmutThe innovative use of digital technologies has led to a disruption of well-established business models in many industries. To prevent from being disrupted, organizations must transform. However, studies about digital transformation have primarily focused on intra-organizational dynamics, including processes, structures, and business models. Digital transformation, however, substantially changes inter-organizational behavior, sometimes the entire ecosystem. To examine this phenomenon, we draw on co-evolution theory, which states that changes occur among all interacting organizations, permitting transformations to be driven by both direct interactions and ecosystem feedbacks. Thus, goal of this paper is to provide a structured overview of literature about the co-evolution of ecosystems in management, organizational science, and IS literature. Following the six properties of co-evolution, we develop a framework for the co-evolution in ecosystems, comprising 23 configurations, based on the analysis of 44 articles. Ultimately, we suggest avenues for future research.
