Training artificial intelligence (AI) models requires a large amount of high-quality data. However, especially in healthcare with its highly sensitive data and high privacy requirements, individual stakeholders often do not own sufficient high-quality data. Data marketplaces for AI aim to solve this problem by connecting data providers and data consumers and enabling data trading. However, despite initial technical concepts and some pilot projects, data marketplaces have not yet been successful in the healthcare sector. Within this study, expert interviews were therefore conducted with a number of relevant experts and stakeholders to identify potentials, challenges and possible strategies for overcoming the challenges. Based on the three dimensions of the technology, organization and environment framework, the results of the study highlight specific potentials of data marketplaces for AI in healthcare, but at the same time also a number of challenges that need to be addressed. The mitigation strategies developed here provide initial approaches for eliminating the challenges identified, but also highlight the need for further research in this area.
AbstractToday’s organizations are struggling with increasing business process complexity and face serious problems when standardizing business processes. A possible strategy seems to be to enhance standardization efforts in order to ensure standardization success. In this paper, we analyze the triangle relationship between standardization effort, business process complexity, and business process standardization. We test the hypotheses that higher business process complexity is related to higher standardization effort and lower business process standardization as well as that higher standardization effort is related to higher business process standardization. We report on the development and testing of a conceptual model that allows to understand the impact of business process complexity on business process standardization and standardization effort. Findings from a survey among 255 business process management experts are used to evaluate our hypotheses. Our results suggest that business process complexity has to be considered as an important driver of standardization effort and constrains business process standardization. Moreover, we show that higher standardization effort cannot compensate for higher business process complexity to ensure business process standardization.
AbstractAgile systems development (SD) is described as a cooperative game of invention and communication, in which teams are characterized by relying heavily on informal communication mechanisms such as face-to-face conversations. Our current state of knowledge about the actual communication process in agile SD projects is fragmented because of the lack of an integrative lens across different studies. On the basis of the Unified Model of SD Success, we provide an integrated view on the role of communication in agile SD by conducting a structured, systematic literature review. Our data collection process resulted in 333 relevant papers on agile SD and communication. We find that despite its acknowledged importance, our knowledge on communication and agile SD is limited and research is scattered, inconclusive, as well as contradictory. In consequence, we present several research gaps that deserve future research attention. Specifically, we call for research that opens up the communication process and empirically validates the implications for communication frequency and quality triggered by agile SD.
AbstractElectronic Health (E-Health) increasingly strives to provide health information and services to healthcare stakeholders (e.g., insurances, physicians, hospital and patient alliances, self-help groups) via the Internet, and to actively involve patients in their care. One major chance for these participatory healthcare and patient-oriented approaches that integrate patients in healthcare are the phenomena and ideas associated with providing information and healthcare on the Internet. This paper examines the existing body of knowledge on online health information and explores the current state of research through a review of literature by classifying articles published between the last two decades in IS, BISE, and health domain-specific journals as well as a review of past and current BMBF-, DFG-, and EU-funded research projects in this field. The fundamental categories of the analysis represent the stakeholders in the healthcare sector, the connecting information flows, the information-transferring technological applications, as well as the categories of the TEMPEST model. Amongst others, the results show that most of the analyzed papers discuss conventional, transactional E-Health applications. Within the TEMPEST model the technological category has the largest share of all categories. Based on these findings, causes and future research fields are discussed.
- KonferenzbeitragAn Ontology for the Conceptual Modeling of Visualization and Presentation in Management Information Systems(Meta-modelling and ontologies – Proceedings of the 2nd Workshop on Meta-Modelling – WoMM 2006, 2006) Rosenkranz, Christoph; Holten, RolandA commonly agreed language between business units and computer departments for the specification of management views is one attempt to bridge the communication gap during the development of information warehouses and management information systems. As today, there is no generally accepted standard for the conceptual modeling of management information systems, although several methods have been proposed so far. What has been largely neglected in all these approaches is the conceptual modeling of presentation and visualization. Since management information systems aim to inform managers and business users about significant facts, the visual representation of these facts is of great importance. In this paper, we develop a framework for the conceptual modeling of management information systems which takes presentation issues into account. Following this framework, we extend the meta-model of an existing modeling approach for the specification of management views with concepts for presentation modeling. We draw on existing taxonomies in order to construct a simple ontology for visualization in the domain of management information systems.
