- KonferenzbeitragHarmonisierter Zugang zu Umweltinformationen für Öffentlichkeit, Politik und Planung: Der Umweltdatenkatalog UDK im Einsatz(Umweltinformatik ’00 Umweltinformation für Planung, Politik und Öffentlichkeit, 2000) Swoboda, Walter; Kruse, Fred; Legat, Rudolf; Nikolai, Ralf; Behrens, SvenThe Umweltdatenkatalog (UDK = Environmental data catalogue) is a metainformation system for locating environmental information available in public authorities. The UDK is introduced in Austria and Germany. This article addresses problems and solutions concerning harmonisation of metainformation. Special interest is given to aspects of collecting and querying metainformation as well as the use of UDK as a meta component of other information systems. The newly developed Virtual UDK allows to start a parallel query in the Internet applications of all involved UDK co-operation partners.
- KonferenzbeitragDie Neukonzeption des Umweltdatenkataloges(Umweltinformatik ’98 - Vernetzte Strukturen in Informatik, Umwelt und Wirtschaft - Computer Science for Environmental Protection ’98 - Networked Structures in Information Technology, the Environment and Business, 1998) Swoboda, Walter; Kruse, Fred; Nyhuis, Detlev; Rousselle, HolgerIn order to offer public access to environmental data, Germany and Austria have developed a meta information system called Umweltdatenkatalog (UDK). While this system has been introduced since a few years ago, a complete re-design was necessary using modem technologies of software development. The new concept of the UDK is presented in detail addressing both the datamodel and the main functionalities as the UDK-Explorer, the Thesaurus-Navigator, and the GIS-viewer. Furthermore, the update procedure of the decentralized database concept is discussed. In particular, conventional technologies are compared with Web-technologies taking into account that the WWWaccess is still very heterogeneous in local administrative institutions. As a prospect a concept of a three level ODBC architecture is presented which strongly reduces the effort of system administrators in client/server
- KonferenzbeitragWWW-UDK 4.0: Die neue Generation eines WebPortals zu deutschen und österreichischen Umweltdaten(Umweltinformatik ’99 - Umweltinformatik zwischen Theorie und Industrieanwendung, 1999) Nikolai, Ralf; Kazakos, Wassili; Kramer, Ralf; Behrens, Sven; Swoboda, Walter; Kruse, FredSince its introduction in 1995 the environmental data catalogue UDK (Umweltdatenkatalog) has become a de-facto standard for environmental meta-information in German and Austrian governmental organisations. During the last year, the fourth generation of WWW-UDK, a tool for publishing UDK data on the Web, was developed based on a careful user requirement analysis. A complete redesign of the software makes possible that on the one hand advanced Internet technologies could be employed and on the other hand the various requirements of the different user groups could be fulfilled. To do so, three main components have been developed: (1) HTML-UDK which provides full retrieval functionality and requires minimal client equipment only. (2) J-UDK, an integrated Java applet of graphical, interactive tools for advanced users. (3) Virtual UDK which provides for the first time searches over distributed UDK data of different catalogues. Furthermore the interaction of WWW-UDK and WinUDK is presented.
