- KonferenzbeitragAn expert system-based approach for energy-efficient processing of natural raw materials(Proceedings of the 28th Conference on Environmental Informatics - Informatics for Environmental Protection, Sustainable Development and Risk Management, 2014) Ghrairi, Zied; Redecker, Marc Allan; Decker, Adnré; Hribernik, Karl A.; Thoben, Klaus-DieterThis paper presents an approach aiming to reduce the energy consumption during the processing of natural raw materials. Natural raw materials are processed with more energy than they actually need. This is due to uncertainties on material and energy flows and to a lack of process flexibility and inappropriate machine configuration. The proposed approach combines techniques like artificial intelligence (expert systems) with technologies for data processing in order to create real-time “action plans” containing energy reduction suggestions for compound feed manufacturers. These suggestions are based on the correlation between energy consumption, product quality and process control by influencing the grain size, the steam amount and machine parameters. Through the application of expert systems the energy consumption in energy-intensive processes could be reduced and seen as an efficient way leading to lower CO2 emissions. At the end of the paper current results are detailed and future work is presented.
- KonferenzbeitragCloud computing for autonomous control in logistics(INFORMATIK 2010. Service Science – Neue Perspektiven für die Informatik. Band 1, 2010) Schuldt, Arne; Hribernik, Karl; Gehrke, Jan Dirk; Thoben, Klaus-Dieter; Herzog, OttheinLogistics processes in a globalised economy are increasingly complex, dynamic, and distributed. These properties pose major challenges for logistics planning and control. Conventional centralised approaches are frequently limited in their efficiency due to the high number of logistics objects and parameters to be considered. As an alternative, the paradigm of autonomous control in logistics delegates decisionmaking to the participating logistics objects themselves. This allows for decreasing the computational effort and coping with dynamics locally. Implementing autonomous logistics with intelligent software agents makes logistics control flexible and scalable with respect to transient demands. In order to meet customer demands, however, also the underlying hardware platform must be scalable. To this end, this paper examines cloud computing as a hardware platform abstraction for autonomous logistics. It discusses and compares different approaches how cloud computing can facilitate logistics control with intelligent software agents.
- KonferenzbeitragContribution of Material Flow Assessment in Recycling Processes to Environmental Management Information Systems (EMIS)(Integration of Environmental Information in Europe, 2010) Pehlken, Alexandra; Rolbiecki, Martin; Decker, André; Thoben, Klaus-DieterMaterial Flow Assessment (MFA) is a method of analyzing the material flow of a process in a well-defined system. Referring to the life cycle of a product the Material Flow Assessment is part of a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and provides the possibility of assessing the environmental impact of a process and product respectively. Applying these methods to recycling processes the potential of saving primary and secondary resources may be measurable. The presented paper will give an overview on the strategy how MFA can contribute to Environmental Management Information Systems (EMIS).
- ZeitschriftenartikelModelling of a Smart Service for Consumables Replenishment – A Life Cycle Perspective(Enterprise Modelling and Information Systems Architectures (EMISAJ) – International Journal of Conceptual Modeling: Vol. 13, Nr. 17, 2018) Anke, Jürgen; Wellsandt, Stefan; Thoben, Klaus-DieterSmart services are an approach for the IT-supported provision of services based on networked products. They enable new relationships between manufacturers and end users, as well as the establishment of new value-creation networks. To gain benefits from these potentials, service providers face the challenges of designing and managing smart services. This is mainly due to the complexity of the underlying cyber-physical system (CPS) as well as the individual life cycles of components and third-party services it consists of. Additionally, a number of actors and their tasks, various tangible and intangible benefits, as well as flows of material, information and money need to be considered during the planning and provisioning of the service. In this paper, we investigate the potential of modelling smart services with the Lifecycle Modeling Language (LML). To this end, we analyse the fulfillment of information need of different stakeholders based on a consumable material replenishment service for 3D printers.
- KonferenzbeitragTrendfashion - A framework for the identification of fashion trends(INFORMATIK 2015, 2015) Beheshti-Kashi, Samaneh; Lutjen, Michael; Stoever, Lennard; Thoben, Klaus-DieterThe fashion industry faces different challenges regarding accurate forecasts for future fashion products. The consumer demand is volatile and sales periods of fashion products are short due to production plants in Asia and target markets in Europe. Besides standard statistical approaches based on historical data and advanced methods such as the application of artificial neural networks or fuzzy logic, there are fashion experts, who use different information sources, e.g. fairs, social media, fashion websites, to predict design-trends as well as sales volumes. In this paper we follow this expert-driven approach by collecting data from fashion weblogs, news sites and fashion magazines, in order to identify actual and future designtrends. For this aim, we develop the TrendFashion Tool which collects data from these fashion sources and analyse them. On a higher level, this tool successfully separates fashion related posts from non-fashion related posts. And on a lower level, it identifies fashion related words and weights them according to an index.
