- Konferenzbeitrag3. Workshop: Nachhaltige Wertschöpfungssysteme(INFORMATIK 2023 - Designing Futures: Zukünfte gestalten, 2023) Schoormann , Thorsten; Kammler, Friedemann; Gembarski, Paul C.; Hagen, Simon
- Konferenzbeitrag3D Printing and Sustainability: A Web Analysis Approach(INFORMATIK 2023 - Designing Futures: Zukünfte gestalten, 2023) Dehghan, Robert; Schmidt, Sebastian; Schwierzy, JulianBesides manifold advantages in production, 3D printing is also often touted as a green technology. However, the quantitative connection between its use and sustainability is unclear so far. In our study, we examined all companies in the DACH region applying a web analytics approach. Using web scraping and deep learning, we assessed the 3D printing and sustainability intensity for each company. Our results suggest that 3D printing companies are significantly more likely to present themselves as sustainable than other companies. However, as our analysis is purely descriptive, correlations and causality still need to be clarified in future research. Our web mining methodology is a promising approach to study economic phenomena with an environmental dimension.
- Konferenzbeitrag4.
- Konferenzbeitrag40 Gbps Access for Metro networks: Implications in terms of Sustainability and Innovation from an LCA Perspective(EnviroInfo & ICT4S, Conference Proceedings, 2015) Moghaddam, Reza Farrahi; Lemieux, Yves; Cheriet, MohamedIn this work, the implications of new technologies, more specifically the new optical FTTH technologies, are studied both from the functional and non-functional perspectives. In particular, some direct impacts are listed in the form of abandoning non-functional technologies, such as micro-registration, which would be implicitly required for having a functioning operation before arrival the new high-bandwidth access technologies. It is shown that such abandonment of non-functional best practices, which are mainly at the management level of ICT, immediately results in additional consumption and environmental footprint, and also there is a chance that some other new innovations might be missed. Therefore, unconstrained deployment of these access technologies is not aligned with a possible sustainable ICT picture, except if they are regulated. An approach to pricing the best practices, including both functional and non-functional technologies, is proposed in order to develop a regulation and policy framework for a sustainable broadband access

- KonferenzbeitragA benchmarking methodology to identify fair contributions of different regions to the energy transition(Environmental Infomatics - Stability, Continuity, Innovation: Current trends and future perspectives based on 30 years of history, 2016) Wind, Günter; Schriefl, Ernst; Lunzer, Horst; Busswald, Petra; Niederl, Franz
- KonferenzbeitragA Cellular Automata Model for Flow-like Landslides with Numerical Simulations of Subaerial and Subaqueous Cases(Environmental Informatics and Industrial Environmental Protection: Concepts, Methods and Tools, 2009) Avolio, Maria Vittoria; Lupiano, Valeria; Mazzanti, Paolo; Di Gregorio, SalvatoreNumerical modelling is a major challenge in the prevention of risks related to the occurrence of subaerial and subaqueous landslides. SCIDDICA-SS2 and SCIDDICA-SS2blocks are Macroscopic Cellular Automata models, developed for the simulations of combined subaerial-subaqueous flow-like landslides. SCIDDICA-SS2 was firstly validated on the 1997 subaerial subaqueous debris flow at Lake Albano (Rome, Italy). This paper outlines the last version of the model, slightly improved and which was extended in order to simulate landslide characterized by large blocks inside the main landslide debris. The paper presents applications of the model to a completely submarine landslide, occurred between November 2007 and September 2008, in the nearshore of Bagnara Calabra town (Italy) and to the catastrophic M. Pacì rock-avalanche occurred on February 6, 1783 (Scilla, Italy). Simulation results of Bagnara Calabra submarine landslide by SCIDDICA-SS2 show a strong convergence between the real and simulated areas affected by the event. Furthermore, numerical analyses by SCIDDICA-SS2blocks demonstrate the ability of the model to simulate rock avalanches characterized by large blocks.
- KonferenzbeitragA Common Reference Model for Environmental Science Research Infrastructures(Proceedings of the 27th Conference on Environmental Informatics - Informatics for Environmental Protection, Sustainable Development and Risk Management, 2013) Chen, Yin; Martin, Paul; Magagna, Barbara; Schentz, Herbert; Zhao, Zhiming; Hardisty, Alex; Preece, Alun; Atkinson, Malcolm; Huber, Robert; Legré, YannickIndependent development of research infrastructures leads to unnecessary replication of technologies and solutions whilst the lack of standard definitions makes it difficult to relate experiences in one infrastructure with those of ot hers. The ENVRI Reference Model, www.envri.eu/rm, uses the Open Distributed Processing standard framework in order to model the "archetypical" environmental research infrastructure. The use of the ENVRI -RM to illustrate common characteristics of European ESFRI environmental infrastructures from a number of different perspectives provides a common language for and understanding of environmental research infrastructures, promote technology and solution sharing between infrastructures, and improve interoperability between implemented services .
- KonferenzbeitragA component based approach for overall Environmental Management Information Systems (EMIS) integration and implementation(Environmental Informatics and Industrial Environmental Protection: Concepts, Methods and Tools, 2009) Giesen, Nils; Hashemi Farzad, Tabassom; Marx Gómez, JorgeThe integration of Environmental Management Information Systems (EMIS) into the existing business information systems of an enterprise is still a complex and expensive assignment. By creating a intelligent software system, the integration and implementation of EMIS in existing systems can be simplified. By following a new procedure model and using a framework, individual solutions in integration and implementation of an environmental information management system in the enterprise wide software landscape can be realized, followed by a self-critical survey, allowing a assessment of the effectiveness of the chosen approach for the individual needs.
