According to the process acceptance theory, the acceptance of processes has an influence on their correct execution. If deviations and manipulations in the process execution, which can also have negative ethical connotations, are to be prevented, it is necessary to understand which factors have an influence on the acceptance. In the present work, the influence of self-healing capabilities in the process as well as the influence of a related loss of control of the participants over the data is investigated in two experiments. By having an algorithm take control of the process, digital ethics are affected here. The basis for the experiment is a generic shopping process provided online via Amazon’s Mechanical Turk. Process acceptance is measured using a questionnaire divided into the three dimensions of attitude (cognitive, affective, conative). The first experiment shows that there is a significant difference in the acceptance of processes with and without self-healing mechanisms. The results of statistic tests indicate that self-healing is not automatically better accepted than repeated manual efforts. This result is also practically very important, because automated reconstructions now play an important role in the IT-supported execution of business processes. A tentative explanation is that a loss of participant control over the data leads to this seemingly counter-intuitive result. The second experiment therefore investigates loss of control. No significance was found in this regard; however, the measured test strength suggests that the chosen test design may not have been sensitive enough to measure such differences. Further investigations are therefore necessary.
AbstractService-oriented architecture (SOA) promises making companies more flexible enabling them to react quickly to changing market conditions. To leverage those advantages, SOA must be integrated with other existing approaches like business process management and enterprise architecture management. The authors describe how they extended the enterprise architecture management and business process management modelling method ARIS. They first created a SOA meta model by abstracting from existing modelling methods as well as extracting expert knowledge through interviews. In a second step, they mapped the SOA meta model to ARIS to provide a concrete modelling language for service-oriented enterprises. The ARIS extension allows describing and governing service architectures, describing services, linking service development initiatives to projects and company strategy, and discovering services for business process automation.
- KonferenzbeitragDevelopment of a prototype for Smart Glasses-based process modelling(Modellierung 2018, 2018) Jannaber, Sven; Zobel, Benedikt; Berkemeier, Lisa; Thomas, OliverThe integration of mobile technology is considered a major challenge for the BPM domain. Wearable devices such as smart glasses have already been successfully applied in high-mobility fields as technical services. However, the utilization of smart glasses to document and model processes still remains on a conceptual level and has not yet been instantiated. To this end, the paper demonstrates a prototype that enables the usage of smart glasses for process modelling. It is shown how glasses-specific functionality e.g. voice recognition and audio/video recording can incorporated into a modelling environment that facilitates the run-time modelling of processes, even for modelling novices.
- TextdokumentThe Effect of Process Length on Process Acceptance(INFORMATIK 2020, 2021) Drewes, Lars; Nissen, VolkerAccording to the process acceptance theory, the acceptance of processes can have an influence on their correct execution. If deviations and manipulations of processes of any kind are to be excluded, it is necessary to understand which factors lead to a change in acceptance. In the present paper, a large scale experimental study is carried out to investigate the influence of the number of process activities and the process throughput time on acceptance. A generic purchasing process is implemented online and executed in variants by the participants of the study. Process acceptance is measured using a questionnaire in three dimensions of attitude (cognitive, affective, conative). The analysis demonstrates that there is a significant difference in acceptance with regard to varying process throughput time as a measure of process length.

- ZeitschriftenartikelThe MobIS-Challenge 2019(Enterprise Modelling and Information Systems Architectures (EMISAJ) – International Journal of Conceptual Modeling: Vol. 15, Nr. 5, 2020) Baier, Stephan; Dunzer, Sebastian; Fettke,; Houy, Constantin; Matzner, Martin; Pfeiffer, Peter; Rehse, Jana-Rebecca; Scheid, Martin; Stephan, Sebastian; Stierle, Matthias; Willems, BrianInformation systems (IS) can significantly support the organization of business processes. However, the proceeding digitalization of processes can also lead to an increasing organizational complexity and the need to more intensely investigate the adherence to external or internal compliance rules. Process-related data from IS and underlying process models can, however, also contribute to an effective compliance checking. This paper summarizes the motivation, the setup, the data set and the results of the 2019 MobIS-Challenge which was conducted as a workshop at WI 2019 in Siegen, Germany. Results submitted to the challenge are presented in detail and directions for future work are discussed.
- KonferenzbeitragRobotic Process Automation in Public Administrations(Digitalisierung von Staat und Verwaltung, 2019) Houy, Constantin; Hamberg, Maarten; Fettke, PeterAgainst the background of current activities towards administrative modernization based on the digitalization of processes, the usage and integration of Robotic Process Automation (RPA) software into public administration work processes can significantly improve their efficiency, reduce process costs and provide better services for citizens. This paper presents and investigates the concept of RPA and discusses the particular potential and challenges of RPA in the public administration context. Furthermore, it demonstrates an application example of a new cognitive RPA approach for automated data extraction and processing that is used in a trade tax assessment scenario using deep convolutional neural networks (CNN). Based on the findings it can be concluded that RPA has considerable potential for the improvement of the efficiency of administrative work processes and for administrative modernization in general.
