The shift towards eCommerce and increased consumer demand for customized products and services along with hardware-related improvements, has been driving significant changes in supply-chain processes. To cope with those different challenges, especially in shop floors, warehouses, and increasingly in logistics, automation and collaborative robotics increasingly gain relevance to increase agility and productivity in these domains. Robotic automation is being held back by the complexity and effort of custom system integration, which is time-consuming and expensive. Today only 20–30% of manufacturing or logistics operations are automated. We believe that the current Industrie 4.0 initiatives at SAP and Cloud Robotics have the potential to make automation drastically faster and cheaper. While SAP’s engagement in the German Industrie 4.0 Platform is being realized through the Asset Administration Shell implementation to provide an easy way to integrate assets to business processes, Cloud Robotics complements this with a new form of integrating autonomous robots into logistics processes. In May 2019, Google released Google’s Cloud Robotics Core, an open, cloud-based automation platform for robotics hardware manufacturers, integrators, and software developers. SAP’s focus is the orchestration of robots from different vendors as a fleet for a variety of logistics processes and SAP also released the necessary extensions to work with Google’s Cloud Robotics as open source packages. Cloud Robotics enables users of SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) to quickly deploy and integrate autonomous warehouse robots into their operations and scale ad-hoc. This article justifies why autonomous robots require a different integration with business applications and describes a new technological foundation for Cloud-Edge-Integration. Subsequently it introduces Cloud Robotics as a solution, compares this with other robotic platforms and describes an implementation.
- KonferenzbeitragCloud-based Processing of data from Non-Target-Analysis for Tracking Micropollutants in Surface Water(EnviroInfo 2022, 2022) Pauw, Viktoria; Hayek Mohamad; Shojaei, Elham; Hachinger, Stephan; Müller, Uwe; Bader, TobiasTens of thousands of chemicals used by consumers, agriculture and industry enter the aquatic environment as micropollutants every day. Using targeted analysis we are so far only able to detect a small subset of the chemicals that are present. Therefore so called non-target screening (NTS) using liquid chromatography in combination with high-resolution mass spectrometry (LCHRMS) is increasingly used by labs to perform more comprehensive monitoring. However, a high degree of variance in measurements and processing workflows results in low comparability of data from separate laboratories. On one hand this is caused by differences in processing techniques which are due to stationary laboratory equipment and on the other hand by differing priorities in the detection strategy and evaluation workflow. The K2I project funded by BMBF aims at fostering collaboration between laboratories by providing a joint platform for uploading and processing LCHRMS data. A cloud based datalake and processing pipeline is being developed. A standardized processing workflow can then be executed which is enhanced by data mining tools including machine learning techniques. An indexing and searching software is employed to create a web based access to the processed data for participants.

The motivation for the introduction of public cloud services are often cost savings and quality improvement. In many cases, avoidable mistakes are made during the initial introduction, which subsequently reduce the success of the project. The article describes an implementation model from the point of view of consulting practice for the introduction and usage of public cloud services with a focus on Microsoft cloud services.
- KonferenzbeitragExperience management for task placements in a cloud(WM 2019 - Wissensmanagement in digitalen Arbeitswelten: Aktuelle Ansätze und Perspektiven - Knowledge Management in Digital Workplace Environments: State of the Art and Outlook, 2020) Kübler, Eric; Minor, MirjamThe execution of workflows in a cloud is more and more popular, and new business concept based on this combination emerge. However, the task to control a cloud in such a way, that the rented cloud resources match the requirements for the currently executed workflows is difficult. Simple solutions struggle with over-, and under-provisioning problems or lack the needed flexibility for the new business concepts. A smart concept for cloud management should use knowledge about the characteristic of the executed task to improve the resource utilization of the cloud. In this paper we present our approach for a CBR based concept for cloud management that reuses experience on proper cloud configurations. We introduce our similarity function for task placements in a cloud and illustrate the approach with some sample workflows form the music mastering domain.
- TextdokumentInfrastructure anomaly detection: A cloud-native architecture at Germany’s Federal Employment Agency(INFORMATIK 2022, 2022) Herget,Gebhard; Sultanow,Eldar; Chircu,Alina; Ludsteck,Johannes; Hammer,Sebastian; Koch,Christian; Reuter,Willy; Seßler,MatthiasIn prior research we explored the use of time series analysis methods to detect one class of information technology (IT) infrastructure anomalies - Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. The results of this prior work were a mathematical model and a prototype implementation that were concretely trialed and operated in the data centers of Germany's Federal Employment Agency (FEA). With this paper, we go one step further and generalize as well as optimize the mathematical model and create higher performance and scalability for an updated prototype through targeted use of cloud technologies. The starting point of our generalization is the Exponential Smoothing (E-S) approach, which underlies, for example, the well-known Holt-Winters method. This method is used to predict univariate time series. To detect anomalies (such as DDoS attacks) in infrastructure data, we extend the E-S approach to enable it to forecast multivariate time series. In this optimization of our method and our prototype, we take an exploratory, agile approach. Furthermore, we present a cloud-native architecture stack which we pilot in Azure.
- KonferenzbeitragMicroservices and Containers(Software Engineering 2020, 2020) Pahl, Claus; Jamshidi, Pooyan; Zimmermann, OlafSoftware architecture research needs to address the specific needs and constraints of specific deployment contexts. We propose an architectural style for cloud-deployed software referring to principles and patterns. Patterns map abstract principles to development and deployment platform solution templates Together, principles and patterns link common software architecture concepts, such as services, adaptivity or models at runtime, to deployment specifics such as virtualisation and controller-based feedback loops. The results of this broader framework shall be discussed in the context of recent trends such as microservices.
