AbstractIn a time where “information” as a resource gains in importance and data becomes an essential production factor for any business, qualified data management is of essence. As decision making relies on information, it can only be qualified and reliable if the sources contain current and correct data. In that sense, a qualified handling and working with this resource is needed. Such a handling also requires that any data managements complies with legal regulation. With the new EU Data Protection Regulation there will be a requirement to erase data when the purpose it has been collected for has been reached. Other than the German data privacy laws there will be much higher sanctions imposed when in violation. As a result, data management will need to ensure a continuous and systematic delete-procedure. Following such a procedure will be described in detail as well as implications for its implementation. Special attention will be given to the necessary interconnections between IT-development and IT-operation, as operations will need to be aware that business information systems will continuously need updated delete-procedures that are concurrent with the evolving IT-landscape. Also, a current innovation project will be discussed that developed solutions to address the challenges resulting from the necessity to delete data as part of the development of business information systems. Deletion and access control to conform with legal obligations can be ensured with those mechanisms.
- KonferenzbeitragDeep Learning Datasets Challenges For Semantic Segmentation - A Survey(INFORMATIK 2023 - Designing Futures: Zukünfte gestalten, 2023) Ponciano, Claire; Schaffert, Markus; Ponciano, Jean-JacquesThis survey offers a comprehensive analysis of challenges encountered when employing large-scale datasets for deep learning-based semantic segmentation, an area with significant implica- tions for industries such as autonomous driving, precision agriculture, and medical imaging. Through a systematic review of 94 papers from Papers with Code, we identified 32 substantial challenges, which we categorized into six key areas: Data Quality and Quantity, Data Preprocessing, Resource Constraints, Data Management and Privacy, Generalization, and Data Compatibility. By identifying and explicating these challenges, our research provides a crucial reference point for future studies aiming to address these issues and enhance the performance of deep learning models for semantic segmentation. Future work will focus on leveraging AI and semantic technologies to provide solutions to these challenges.
- ZeitschriftenartikelPerformance Evaluation of Policy-Based SQL Query Classification for Data-Privacy Compliance(Datenbank-Spektrum: Vol. 21, No. 3, 2021) Schwab, Peter K.; Röckl, Jonas; Langohr, Maximilian S.; Meyer-Wegener, KlausData science must respect privacy in many situations. We have built a query repository with automatic SQL query classification according to data-privacy directives. It can intercept queries that violate the directives, since a JDBC proxy driver inserted between the end-users’ SQL tooling and the target data consults the repository for the compliance of each query. Still, this slows down query processing. This paper presents two optimizations implemented to increase classification performance and describes a measurement environment that allows quantifying the induced performance overhead. We present measurement results and show that our optimized implementation significantly reduces classification latency. The query metadata (QM) is stored in both relational and graph-based databases. Whereas query classification can be done in a few ms on average using relational QM, a graph-based classification is orders of magnitude more expensive at 137 ms on average. However, the graphs contain more precise information, and thus in some cases the final decision requires to check them, too. Our optimizations considerably reduce the number of graph-based classifications and, thus, decrease the latency to 0.35 ms in $$87\%$$ 87 % of the classification cases.
