AbstractIn recent years, there has been an increasing focus on designing IT support for workplaces. This is due to a fundamental change of various environmental conditions. This paper first of all shows the necessity for designing a digital workplace. It then systematises and highlights main challenges of this shift on the basis of the extended work system. In order to achieve a holistic solution for designing a digital workplace it is proposed to combine the problem-solving cycle in work science with basic approaches in information systems science. On this basis, implications for practical design and further research are identified and recommended.
- KonferenzbeitragDigitalization in schools(Workshop Gemeinschaften in Neuen Medien (GeNeMe) 2019, 2019) Silvia, Blass; Köhler, ThomasTo improve the quality of teaching, many governments around the world have begun implementing extensive programs aimed at supporting teachers in their efforts to employ information and communication technologies (ICTs) to facilitate their introduction in the teaching-learning process. A prominent case study is the “One Laptop per Teacher” (OLPT) initiative, which was introduced in Bolivia in 2011. Due to the lack of evidence regarding the success and effect of this program, this empirical study first deals with teachers’ attitudes towards ICTs by employing a quantitative approach based on three dichotomous distinctions, including: (a) personal experience with ICTs use versus consequences for the society of ICTs use, (b) ICTs use for learning and working versus ICTs use for entertainment and communication, and (c) positive attitudes (i.e., ICTs as beneficial tools) versus negative attitudes (i.e., ICTs as autonomous entities). Study results confirm that most teachers display positive attitudes towards the use of technologies from a personal perspective, but from a social point of view, the use of ICTs to deliver entertainment and communication content is perceived quite negatively, and many teachers still consider ICTs as suppressors of creativity and personal interactions. Significant differences were found in personal attitudes between rural and urban areas, the indicators for ICTs as generators of anxiety were higher in the former. Moreover, teachers with more experience in the use of ICTs and teachers who have participated in virtual courses clearly held more positive attitudes towards the use of ICTs in the workplace.
Das Aufkommen nutzerfreundlicher Informationstechnologie (IT)-Lösungen befähigt außerdem Fachbereiche, IT innovativ einzusetzen. The complexity of enterprise architectures of companies has increased in the last years, due to the usage of more hard-, and software and their growing interconnectedness. The rising of user-friendly information technology (IT) enables business departments to use IT in an innovative way. This increases the heterogeneity of enterprise architectures and fuels the transformation that digitalization demands of organizations. Here, the question is raised, if organizations see any value in reducing the complexity using IT integration or if this is old news considering digitalization. Expert interviews and a qualitative data analysis show that IT integration and digitalization are no disjoint phenomena but are rather mutually dependent. The results show how different the experts interpret the term and that uniform use is therefore essential. Digitalization is on the one hand driver of IT integration, but on the other hand it also changes its implementation. The integration decision is complex due to various advantages and disadvantages. Business-managed IT is only rarely the target of IT integration projects. This paper contributes to the scientific discussion by showing that new implementation techniques as well as balancing the benefits and drawbacks of an IT integration should be the target of future research. Additionally, a mutual language is the foundation for IT integration projects and a culture, where business units are part of IT integration decisions should be the goal of every company. Overall, the analyses show that IT integration is not old news but, in contrary, a hot topic .
In the recent past, the Federal Republic of Germany has experienced an increase in diesel driving bans in large cities. At the same time, large cities are becoming increasingly popular as the centre of life. Transport companies need to offer the population sustainable mobility solutions that enable maximum flexibility. Modern Mobility-as-a-Service-concepts and innovations in mobility are questioning the classic, plan-oriented, local public transport system and thus also the existence of bus stops. Qualitative expert interviews show that bus stops in city centres will change: One reason being the increasing digital networking of mobility providers and the resulting modern Mobility-as-a-Service-concepts. The results indicate that the bus stop in the inner cities will remain in the future and will be supplemented by on-demand traffic. A radical change, such as the nationwide adoption of autonomous buses, could lead to a complete renewal of the bus stop in the long term.
