- KonferenzbeitragEnhancing Online Practical Assignments through Chatbot-Based Individualization and Scalability(Mensch und Computer 2024 - Workshopband, 2024) Shahriar, AsifThis research investigates the scalability and individualisation challenges of online practical assignments in online learning modules. Utilising a MOOC prototype in a blended learning framework, the study employs the Action Design Research (ADR) method to enhance online learning. Key interventions include chatbots for task provision and feedback, aiming to offer personalised and scalable solutions. The study will evaluate these interventions' impact on learning outcomes and develop a comprehensive conceptual framework. Findings will provide insights into effective technological solutions, contributing significantly to the field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and online education.
- KonferenzbeitragTowards a Creativity Support Tool for Facilitating Students’ Creative Thinking on Writing Tasks(21. Fachtagung Bildungstechnologien (DELFI), 2023) Krishnaraja, Swathi; Wambsganss, Thiemo; Mejia, Paola; Pinkwart, NielsCreative thinking is one of the key skills of human intelligence that leads to the generation of valuable and novel ideas. It is also considered essential for developing students' capabilities and their cognition. While recent advances in artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies have been shown to promote critical thinking, learner interfaces that support the 'creative thinking' of students are scarce. In this work, we present a design system for facilitating students’ creative writing abilities. We follow a learner-centered design methodology, and evaluate the design system functionally, visually, and for accessibility, with a group of twelve students as representative users. The results show that designing alongside the target audience helps to rapidly identify user needs, individual preferences, and diverse viewpoints, and shows that the designed system performs better in all tested aspects including learner satisfaction, ownership, and self-efficacy.
- Conference paperTowards Open Science at the DELFI Conference(Proceedings of DELFI 2024, 2024) Kiesler, Natalie; Röpke, René; Schiffner, Daniel; Schulz, Sandra; Strickroth, Sven; Ehlenz, Matthias; Heinemann, Birte; Wilhelm-Weidner, ArnoDespite the increasing awareness of Open Science within the educational technology community, conferences, such as DELFI, do not yet foster the publication of research data including software. To address this, we conducted a survey eliciting the community’s needs, perspectives, and publication preferences. The analysis of 24 valid responses reveals a variety of research data formats used, and several uncertainties, e. g., regarding data ownership. Associated barriers comprise legal concerns and lacking resources to publish data. Nonetheless, researchers seem open for new publication formats. Moreover, we analyzed author’s intentions to publish data related to their DELFI submissions in 2023 (n=66). Many researchers assume not to have data to share (n=28), or no intention to publish data in the future (n=16). Overall, the results imply a lack of awareness and recognition of data publications, so that further efforts and incentives are required to move toward Open Science practices in the DELFI community.
