Furthermore, not only the number of serious games increases but also the range of application areas. Today, serious games address physical cognitive social and psychological needs for a different target audience with multiple devices. Serious games are often classified by benefits or purpose within a specific application area, but classifications focused on different user- and game-specific aspects are still rare. In this paper we provide an overview on a selection of serious games for elderly people by extracting and summarizing common categories used to classify games on a general level and especially serious games. Furthermore, a collection of serious games for elderly based on literature research as well as a classification using the summarized categories is presented. By those means, serious games for elderly shall be structured and not sufficiently covered approaches of providing benefits be identified.

One way to address this is to increase the use of telemedicine systems and services to ensure non-local yet individualized patient care, such as in rural areas. When considering new medical technology components, we must compensate for age-related changes in perception, cognition and motor skills to achieve user-centered design and take into account psychophysical effect relationships to achieve sustainable acceptance for technology integration. This paper presents various best-practice examples for participatory investigation into influencing factors, with a focus on the different times and periods within the lifecycle of a telemedical product and associated services. In addition to giving concrete design hints derived from individual studies, the paper discusses the strengths and weaknesses of the paradigms used and provides recommendations for user-centric development with old and very old patients.

The development and implementation of a DPM concept for use in a scientific environment is demonstrated according to a successful use case – the project BLADL. The intention of this paper is to provide a guideline for ethical and privacy-preserving data collection and management in research projects in the EU.
- KonferenzbeitragDesigning a User Study to Evaluate the Feasibility of Icons for the Elderly(Mensch & Computer 2011: überMEDIEN|ÜBERmorgen, 2011) Mertens, Alexander; Koch-Körfges, David; Schlick, Christopher M.During employment of icons in order to represent system functions, specific user requirements from elderly people have not been scientifically gathered and thus will merely be considered during the process of system design. The survey, with explicit consideration of technology acceptance and experience of 120 elderly probands, looked into the comprehension of four different classes of nonanimated graphical representations. It was shown that among elderly, the use of photos compared to pictograms or clip art leads to a significantly higher recognition rate. The mapping of actions rather than objects leads to a further reduction of the error probability and is thus, especially in the context of telemedicine, preferable for the target group.
