- ZeitschriftenartikelBeziehungsmarketing aus Kundensicht(Wirtschaftsinformatik: Vol. 49, No. 1, 2007) Treiblmaier, HorstRelationship Marketing from a Customer’s Perspective. Companies need a wealth of personal data in order to address customers in a targeted manner. Utilizing IT enables them to directly address customers in order to increase sales by improving customer retention. The use of personal data becomes problematic when customers decline the use of their data. If companies ignore their customers’ privacy preferences, their chances of retaining them with targeted offers decline. In this paper, we first identify opportunities and drawbacks of individualization measures from a customer’s perspective based on the findings of a qualitative survey. The results of a quantitative survey illustrate how people’s general attitude toward personal data transmission determines their perception of personalization measures.
- ZeitschriftenartikelIdentifying Landmark Candidates Beyond Toy Examples(KI - Künstliche Intelligenz: Vol. 31, No. 2, 2017) Richter, Kai-FlorianIncorporating references to landmarks in navigation systems requires having data on potential landmarks in the first place. While there have been many approaches in the scientific literature for identifying landmark candidates, these have hardly been picked up in actual, running systems. One major obstacle for this to happen may be that most—if not all—approaches presented so far are not scalable due to their underlying data requirements. In this paper, I will critically discuss existing approaches in light of their scalability. I will then suggest a way forward to more scalable solutions by combining in a smart way aspects of different approaches.

The further training and qualification of employees are central success factors of digital change. The central challenge is to offer these customized services and not to presuppose acceptance, but rather to regard it as a target value. However, this will only happen if the employees are seen as partners and their needs and understanding are taken into account in the long term. Against this background, this article proposes an approach to realize further education as a personal service. For this purpose, a brief outline of the basic competence requirements of digital change is given first. Afterwards, the current situation of in-company continuing training in the digital transformation will be examined. A quantitative survey was conducted over a period of six months to determine how employees perceive the digital transformation of their company and the resulting needs for continuing vocational training. Based on this, three current paradoxes are derived, which can be prevented by conducting continuing education as personal service. Recommendations and solutions will be discussed and further research is needed.
- ZeitschriftenartikelRevolution in Health and Wellbeing(KI - Künstliche Intelligenz: Vol. 29, No. 2, 2015) Lőrincz, AndrásWe argue that recent technology developments hold great promises for health and wellbeing. In our view, recent advances of (1) smart tools and wearable sensors of diverse kinds, (2) data collection and data mining methods, (3) 3D visual recording and visual processing methods, (4) 3D models of the environment with robust physics engine, and last but not least, (5) new applications of human computing and crowdsourcing started the revolution. We are neither claiming nor excluding that human intelligence will be reached in some years from now, but make the above claim, which is both weaker and stronger. We believe that fast developments for health and wellbeing are the question of active collaboration between health and wellbeing experts and motivated engineers.
With the pandemic-related first lockdown in March 2020, digital learning has experienced a tremendous boost. In times of nationwide school closures, the “School to go” initiative makes a relevant contribution to digital education for students, parents, teachers and the interested public. The platform of the same name ( www.schooltogo.de ) bundles digital learning opportunities for children, young people and young adults. Currently, there are already over 1000 innovative learning formats (as of May 2021) for various subjects on “School to go”, aimed at students of all ages and grades. This article shows how new learning succeeds in the age of digitization and how didactics and business informatics should be harmonized to provide sustainable learning experiences.
- ZeitschriftenartikelUser preference mining techniques for personalized applications(Wirtschaftsinformatik: Vol. 46, No. 6, 2004) Holland, Stefan; Kießling, WernerAdvanced personalized e-applications require comprehensive knowledge about their users’ likes and dislikes in order to provide individual product recommendations, personal customer advice, and custom-tailored product offers. In our approach we model such preferences as strict partial orders with “A is better than B” semantics, which has been proven to be very suitable in various e-applications. In this paper we present preference mining techniques for detecting strict partial order preferences in user log data. Real-life e-applications like online shops or financial services usually have large log data sets containing the transactions of their customers. Since the preference miner uses sophisticated SQL operations to execute all data intensive operations on database layer, our algorithms scale well even for such large log data sets. With preference mining personalized e-applications can gain valuable knowledge about their customers’ preferences, which can be applied for personalized product recommendations, individual customer service, or one-to-one marketing.
- Conference Paper“What can I help you with today?” - Exploring Opportunities of Learner Modeling for Online Educational Portals(DELFI 2019, 2019) Wollny, Sebastian; Schneider, Jan; Rittberger, Marc; Drachsler, HendrikOnline educational Portals (OEPs) subsume a field of online repositories for a wide range of stakeholders. They are characterized by easily accessible structures that do not require visitor accounts. Most OEPs therefore provide content in one way to all visitors also known as “one size fits all” approach. With this study, we examine if Web Analytics data can be used to infer the modeling of learners for OEPs. This would be the basis for additional and more personalized ways of providing content to various stakeholders. In order to draw conclusions about opportunities and limitations of Web Analytics in this regard, the data structure of the Fachportal Pädagogik, as one of the largest educational OEPs in Germany, is compared with a common Learner Modeling Framework. The evaluation of the results finally leads to two major challenges that must be overcome in order to achieve personalized content and learning experiences on OEPs.
