- ZeitschriftenartikelApproaches to the Ex-ante Evaluation of Investments into Information Systems(Wirtschaftsinformatik: Vol. 46, No. 3, 2004) Walter, Sascha G.; Spitta, ThorstenThis paper critically reviews approaches for the evaluation of investments in information systems prior to their implementation. First, the ground for the review is prepared by examining characteristics of evaluation, information systems and value. A classification of the numerous evaluation approaches identified in English and German literature is then presented. Examples of each class are reviewed and their advantages and drawbacks are discussed. Their use in evaluation practice is analyzed through the examination of empirical studies and directions for future research are given.
- ZeitschriftenartikelA Domain-specific Modeling Technique for Value-driven Strategic Sourcing(Enterprise Modelling and Information Systems Architectures (EMISAJ) – International Journal of Conceptual Modeling: Vol. 13, Nr. 8, 2018) Rafati, Laleh; Roelens, Ben; Poels, GeertStrategic sourcing recognizes that procurement should support a firm’s effort to achieve its long-term objectives. In particular, procurement needs to be a cross-functional end-to-end process inside the organization that is oriented towards value creation within the company and between the company and its partners in the value chain. The main challenge to the implementation of value-driven strategic sourcing is the lack of instruments that are characterized by analytical rigor and robustness in the identification of strategic sourcing options to achieve strategic goals. Therefore, this research aims to develop a domain-specific modeling technique founded on the Service-Dominant Logic which focuses on the systemic exploration of sourcing alternatives and emphasizes the delivery of value to achieve desired outcomes. This paper reports on a first cycle of Design Science Research which includes the demonstration and the evaluation of the value and utility of the modeling artefacts by means of a case study about IT outsourcing in the healthcare industry.
- Textdokumentload while aiming; Hit?(Tagungsband UP08, 2008) Cockton, GilbertUsability and now UX specialists aren’t in charge and shouldn’t be. Design strategists should lead project teams to focus on a common purpose rather than squabble over competing value systems. Evaluating too should have only one purpose: to evaluate design purpose. In this keynote address, I will introduce worth-centred approaches to digital products and services. These focus on worth as a balance of benefits over costs for all included stakeholders. Worth-Centred Development (WCD) takes designing to a point where a focus on intended worth can progress to achievable and on to achieved worth. The evolving WCD framework combines approaches in support of six meta-principles that are necessary and sufficient to enact designing as it ought to be. Example approaches such as worth maps, element measurement strategies and user experience frames are briefly illustrated to show how we must and can move beyond user experience to focus on achieving outcomes in the world as the primary purpose of all designing.
- ZeitschriftenartikelThe Benefits of Enterprise Architecture in Organizational Transformation(Business & Information Systems Engineering: Vol. 62, No. 6, 2020) Niemi, Eetu; Pekkola, SamuliToday, as organizations constantly adjust their activities to meet ever-changing circumstances, continuous business transformation is taking place. However, planning and steering this transformation can be a daunting task as complexity has been built into the organization over the years. Enterprise Architecture (EA) has been widely adapted as a planning and governance approach to manage the complexity and constant change, and to align the organization toward a common goal. This article studies the EA benefit-realization process by clarifying how EA benefits are realized. Specifically, the focus is on the strategies, resources, and practices which the EA benefits stem from. The findings, derived from an in-depth case study, show that the EA benefit-realization process constitutes a long, intertwined chain of activities. Organizations benefit from EA through various means: from the initiation, when comprehensive understanding starts to form, until years later, when measurable outcomes such as cost savings materialize. Suggestions on what to incorporate into EA programs are presented.
