- KonferenzbeitragIdentifying Characteristics of Reflection Triggers in Data Science Ethics Education(Proceedings of Mensch und Computer 2024, 2024) Linke, Diane; Müller-Birn, ClaudiaEthics education in data science aims to teach aspiring data scientists a critical reflective data science practice. However, university courses must bridge the gap between theoretic knowledge of ethics and ethical practice. Towards this, our research aims to understand how we can promote a critical reflective practice through reflection. We, therefore, investigate how data science students start reflecting and what constitutes reflection-triggering contexts in data science education. For this, we introduce a reflective essay assignment and propose a reflection-sensitive inductive content analysis to analyze it. Our findings based on seven student reflective essays suggest that important reflection trigger characteristics in data science ethics education include students’ expectations, a new insight, motivators for reflection related to expectations, teaching formats, and emotions. Our reflection-sensitive analysis is suitable for explorative analysis and creates transparency about existing sensitizing concepts.
- TextdokumentOpen ecosystem platforms for assistants and IoT-devices: a look into corporate practice(Open Identity Summit 2017, 2017) Fähnrich, Nicolas; Kubach, MichaelPlatforms are becoming an increasingly important part of today’s and future innovations. However, from a privacy and security, as well as from a societal perspective, closed proprietary platforms, the currently dominant form, possess certain potentially problematic features. This is why many call for open ecosystem approaches that so far have had only limited success on the market. In order to design an open ecosystem platform in a way that is attractive to companies, we therefore analyze the role platforms and related aspects play in companies’ strategies. This is achieved through an analysis of the annual corporate reports of large companies. Results show that platforms are a common topic in all industry sectors, with closed proprietary approaches prevailing. This illustrates that open ecosystem approaches are still hardly considered by the big industry players and more efforts are needed to make them economically attractive.

Zudem gibt es zwischen der Branche und der personellen Verankerung der IT auf Vorstandsebene einen Zusammenhang.AbstractOn the Rate of Board Members with IT Responsibilities in Firms Listed on the Stock Exchange: Results of a Content Analysis: This article reports on a content analysis that investigates the rate of board members with IT responsibilities in firms listed on the stock exchange in the German speaking countries. Furthermore, the study ascertains the correlation of six factors – which become evident through content analysis – with the rate of board members with IT responsibilities. The results show that in Germany and Switzerland 26 percent of the firms investigated have a board member with IT responsibilities, in Austria the rate is 23 percent. Additionally, the results show that turnover and number of employees are highly positively correlated with the rate of board members with IT responsibilities. Furthermore, the data show a correlation between industry and the rate of board members with IT responsibilities.
