- WorkshopbeitragA New Software Toolset for Recording and Viewing Body Tracking Data(Mensch und Computer 2023 - Workshopband, 2023) Fietkau, JulianWhile 3D body tracking data has been used in empirical HCI studies for many years now, the tools to interact with it tend to be either vendor-specific proprietary monoliths or single-use tools built for one specific experiment and then discarded. In this paper, we present our new toolset for cross-vendor body tracking data recording, storing, and visualization/playback. Our goal is to evolve it into an open data format along with software tools capable of producing and consuming body tracking recordings in said new format, and we hope to find interested collaborators for this endeavour.
- WorkshopbeitragDesigning an Interactive Visualization for Coordinating Road Construction Sites in Virtual Reality(Mensch und Computer 2019 - Workshopband, 2019) Uhr, Manuela; Haselmann, Sina; Steep, Lea; Eikhoff, Joschka; Steinicke, FrankRoad works highly affect traffic in major cities, therefore coordination is key to avoid congestion on urban streets and highways. Software tools and interactive visualizations giving insight to complex road works data as well as preexisting spatial and temporal dependencies in between sites are important for the coordination process. In existing 2D visualizations, spatio-temporal dependencies are shown in multiple views, resulting in high cognitive load. In this article we describe the design and evaluation of a visualization using Virtual Reality for exploring multi-dimensional data of road works. The relevance for expert use was reviewed in an interview with local traffic engineers. In addition, a user study was conducted to evaluate the general usability of the prototype. The results reflect an overall positive response and acceptance and show directions for further development.
- KonferenzbeitragTensor Methods for Global Sensitivity Analysis(INFORMATIK 2019: 50 Jahre Gesellschaft für Informatik – Informatik für Gesellschaft, 2019) Ballester-Ripoll, Rafael; Paredes, Enrique G.; Pajarola, RenatoSobol indices and other, more recent quantities of interest (such as the effective and mean dimensions, the dimension distribution, or the Shapley values) are of great aid in sensitivity analysis, uncertainty quantification, and model interpretation. Unfortunately, computing such indices is still challenging for high-dimensional systems. We propose the tensor train decomposition (TT) as a unified framework for surrogate modeling and sensitivity analysis of independently distributed variables. To this end, we introduce the Sobol tensor train (Sobol TT) data structure, which compactly represents variance components for all possible joint variable interactions of any order. Our formulation allows efficient aggregation and subselection operations, and we are able to obtain related Sobol indices and other related quantities at low computational cost.
- KonferenzbeitragVRoadworks - Interactive Data Visualization for Coordinating Construction Sites in Virtual Reality(Mensch und Computer 2019 - Tagungsband, 2019) Uhr, Manuela; Haselmann, Sina; Steep, Lea; Eikhoff, JoschkaThis work describes the use case, design and development of a virtual reality application for the visualization of multi-dimensional road works data. For successfully coordinating construction sites affecting roads and traffic, spatial and temporal dependencies need to be considered. In widely used 2D visualizations such as Gantt-charts and digital map tools, the relevant data and dependencies cannot be shown at once or well associated resulting in high cognitive load. Therefore a 3D interactive visualization with multiple map layers was designed and developed using virtual reality. The usability of the prototype was evaluated in a small user study and expert interview.
