- KonferenzbeitragDeLorean: A Storage Layer to Analyze Physical Data at Scale(Datenbanksysteme für Business, Technologie und Web (BTW 2017), 2017) Kußmann, Michael; Berens, Maximilian; Eitschberger, Ulrich; Kilic, Ayse; Lindemann, Thomas; Meier, Frank; Niet, Ramon; Schellenberg, Margarete; Stevens, Holger; Wishahi, Julian; Spaan, Bernhard; Teubner, JensModern research in high energy physics depends on the ability to analyse massive volumes of data in short time. In this article, we report on DeLorean, which is a new system architecture for high-volume data processing in the domain of particle physics. DeLorean combines the simplicity and performance of relational database technology with the massive scalability of modern cloud execution platforms (Apache Drill for that matter). Experiments show a four-fold performance improvement over state-of-the-art solutions.
- KonferenzbeitragExperiences from Building the Open Database Performance Ranking with benchANT(Softwaretechnik-Trends Band 43, Heft 1, 2023) Seybold, Daniel; Domaschka, JörgBenchmarking is an important method to advance database management systems (DBMS) from the industry and research perspective. Ensuring transparent and reproducible results is a key requirement to ensure the acceptance and credibility of benchmarking. To advance the research towards transparent and reproducible benchmark data, we report on building an open DBMS performance ranking with 130 benchmark configurations and ensuring comparability, transparency and reproducibility. We derive the required data on cloud, resource, DBMS and benchmark level to enable transparency and reproducibility and demonstrate the generation of such data sets with benchANT. Building upon such data, we outline future research directions for DBMS performance modelling, DBMS auto-tuning and decision support.
- KonferenzbeitragImpact of Doppelgängers on Face Recognition: Database and Evaluation(BIOSIG 2021 - Proceedings of the 20th International Conference of the Biometrics Special Interest Group, 2021) Rathgeb, Christian; Drozdowski, Pawel; Obel, Marcel; Dörsch, André; Stockhardt, Fabian; Haryanto, Nathania E.; Bernardo, Kevin; Busch, ChristophLook-alikes, a.k.a. doppelgängers, increase the probability of false matches in a facial recognition system, in contrast to random face image pairs selected for non-mated comparison trials. In order to analyse and improve the robustness of automated face recognition, datasets of doppelgänger face image pairs are needed. In this work, we present a new face database consisting of 400 pairs of doppelgänger images. Subsequently, two state-of-the-art face recognition systems are evaluated on said database and other public datasets, including the Disguised Faces in The Wild (DFW) database. It is found that the collected image pairs yield very high similarity scores resulting in a significant increase of false match rates. To facilitate reproducible research and future experiments in this field, the dataset is made available.
- TextdokumentMAGPIE: A Scalable Data Storage System for Efficient High Volume Data Queries(BTW 2019, 2019) Lindemann, Thomas; Brinkmann, Patrick; Dalbah, Fadi; Hakert, Christian; Honysz, Philipp-Jan; Matuszczyk, Daniel; Müller, Nikolas; Schmulbach, Alexander; Todorinski, Stefan Petyov; Tüselmann, Oliver; Wonsak, Shimon; Teubner, JensModern challenges in huge sized data storage and querying require new approaches in the field of data storage systems. With MAGPIE, we are introducing a hardware-software-co-design, which is efficient in querying data by distributed storage with storage-near pre-processing and designed to be scalable up to large dimensions.
- ZeitschriftenartikelMediana(Wirtschaftsinformatik: Vol. 44, No. 1, 2002) Luttermann, Hartmut; Freisleben, Bernd; Grauer, Manfred; Kelter, Udo; Kamphusmann, Thomas; Merten, Udo; Rößling, Guido; Unger, Thomas; Waldhans, JürgenThis paper presents Mediana, a computer-based, integrated workbench for the management and analysis of media data supporting media researchers. Its main components are the recording and management of multimedia data (i.e. image, video and text data) in a database system, semi-automatical analysis tools for images and videos, and a graphical user interface (GUI) integrating all tools and components applied in media research.
- KonferenzbeitragMobiBits: Multimodal Mobile Biometric Database(BIOSIG 2018 - Proceedings of the 17th International Conference of the Biometrics Special Interest Group, 2018) Bartuzi, Ewelina; Roszczewska, Katarzyna; Trokielewicz, Mateusz; Białobrzeski, RadosławThis paper presents a novel database comprising representations of five different biometric characteristics, collected in a mobile, unconstrained or semi-constrained setting with three different mobile devices, including characteristics previously unavailable in existing datasets, namely hand images, thermal hand images, and thermal face images, all acquired with a mobile, off-the-shelf device. In addition to this collection of data we perform an extensive set of experiments providing insight on benchmark recognition performance that can be achieved with these data, carried out with existing commercial and academic biometric solutions. This is the first known to us mobile biometric database introducing samples of biometric traits such as thermal hand images and thermal face images. We hope that this contribution will make a valuable addition to the already existing databases and enable new experiments and studies in the field of mobile authentication. The MobiBits database is made publicly available to the research community at no cost for non-commercial purposes.
- KonferenzbeitragPROTECT Multimodal DB: fusion evaluation on a novel multimodal biometrics dataset envisaging Border Control(BIOSIG 2018 - Proceedings of the 17th International Conference of the Biometrics Special Interest Group, 2018) Sequeira, Ana F.; Chen, Lulu; Ferryma, James; Galdi, Chiara; Chiesa, Valeria; Dugelay, Jean-Luc; Maik, Patryk; Gmitrowicz, Piotr; Szklarski, Lukasz; Prommegger, Bernhard; Kauba, Christof; Kirchgasser, Simon; Uhl, Andreas; Grudzien, Artur; Kowalski, MarcinThis work presents a novel multimodal database comprising 3D face, 2D face, thermal face, visible iris, finger and hand veins, voice and anthropometrics. This dataset will constitute a valuable resource to the field with its number and variety of biometric traits. Acquired in the context of the EU PROTECT project, the dataset allows several combinations of biometric traits and envisages applications such as border control. Based upon the results of the unimodal data, a fusion scheme was applied to ascertain the recognition potential of combining these biometric traits in a multimodal approach. Due to the variability on the discriminative power of the traits, a leave the n-best out fusion technique was applied to obtain different recognition results.
- ZeitschriftenartikelSkalierbare Verarbeitung von XML mit Infonyte-DB(Wirtschaftsinformatik: Vol. 44, No. 5, 2002) Tesch, Thomas; Fankhauser, Peter; Weitzel, TimThe emerging penetration of IT architectures with XML results in increasing XML data volumes. Available tools often fail in realizing scalable XML processing for large XML data volumes. Infonyte-DB, a product of Infonyte GmbH, is a high performance XML kernel that economizes on system resources and allows the processing of large XML data volumes.
