- KonferenzbeitragA 3 phases model towards an industrialization of (generative) artificial intelligence developed for corporate environments(AKWI Jahrestagung 2024, 2024) Przewloka, MartinCompanies face major challenges when it comes to developing a strategic approach related to artificial intelligence (AI). The massive wave of generative models that has just started is another indication that technology adaptation is associated with very large uncertainties. As a result, a large number of undirected activities in corporates occur in which so-called use cases, prototypes and minimum viable products are implemented. A targeted and strategic approach is hardly recognizable. The aim of the work carried out here was to develop a practical model that meets all parameters: moving forward quickly, learning from mistakes, developing unique selling points and thus competitive advantages ultimately resulting in an AI strategy. This is exactly what can be achieved in 3 steps, the efficiency phase, the competitive advantage phase and the transformation phase, all of which build on one another sequentially. The model presented here also makes a significant contribution to the development and adaptation of a responsible AI.
- TextdokumentAI-based Online Vacancies - Trends and Differences between SMEs and Larger Enterprises(INFORMATIK 2022, 2022) Lowin,Maximilian; Seip,JendrikArtificial intelligence is an essential key competence for cost reduction in companies. For this reason, the German government is promoting its use and hopes that it will lead to a digital transformation of companies. We investigated whether small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) also participate in this transformation by examining AI-related vacancies for their fields of activity. In particular, we observe whether the required skills of potential applicants suggest that enterprises also require artificial intelligence at an advanced stage and that quality factors such as fairness and ethics play a role. We found that the need for more advanced AI-related jobs has started increasing but still plays a minor role compared to traditional data science roles. Notably, only large companies require some of these additional skills. Moreover, many vacancies even state that a deep AI understanding is not necessarily a prerequisite.
- WorkshopbeitragAlexa, tell me more – about new best friends, the advantage of hands-free operation and life-long learning(Mensch und Computer 2020 - Workshopband, 2020) Scherr, Simon André; Meier, Annika; Cihan, SelmaThe demographic change and the digital transformation are two phenomena that change our society. In the future, the demographic change will lead to an increasing proportion of older people. Elderly people often feel lonely and cannot fully take part in social life. Our research explores how to increase the participation of elderly people in social activities and how to reduce loneliness with the help of digital solutions. For this purpose, we equipped a group of elderly people living in the same neighborhood with Amazon Echo Show devices. This experience report presents our evaluation strategy and results. We present the expectations of the participants, how they used the device, and the results regarding user acceptance. It turned out that the device is easy to use and became a beloved member of the household, and that the participants felt less lonely and more socially interconnected.
- TextdokumentDigitalisation by Enterprise Architecture Management(INFORMATIK 2020, 2021) Warnecke, BenjaminThis research in progress paper describes how enterprise architecture management can support digitalisation. It is based on an initial literature review and provides practical recommendations. The revealed key strategic recommendations are: (1) use capability-based planning, (2) include product IT in EAM and (3) give EAM-practices the required power in the organisation.

- ZeitschriftenartikelHow companies can benefit from Enterprise Architecture Management in the Digital Transformation Process – An Extended Research Model(Enterprise Modelling and Information Systems Architectures (EMISAJ) – International Journal of Conceptual Modeling: Vol. 14, Nr. 4, 2019) Reichstein, Christopher; Sandkuhl, Kurt; Härting, Ralf-ChristianA successful digital transformation in enterprises requires surpassing infrastructural flexibility within firms and a high level of IT competence in order to meet changing business requirements. Digital enterprises face the challenge of combining business and IT to benefit from existing technological achievements in the digital age. Previous studies have shown that there are critical factors that influence the benefits of Enterprise Architecture Management (EAM). However, factors influencing the digital transformation have not been considered yet. An alternative and iterative research approach develops new success factors for enterprises that benefit from EAM. In this context, this paper builds on a qualitative research approach to examine additional factors and their impact on EAM. The approach is based on an extended structured literature review to build a new empirical research model. In addition, the indicators were validated by three different industrial case studies reflecting the benefit from EAM within the digital transformation process. The results of the extended research models and case study validation show that factors aggregated to the determinants IT Landscapes, Internal Business and EAM Establishment have substantially impact on the benefit of EAM in enterprises. Moreover, the authors found two factors (firm size and external business) in the model moderating & the effects on the benefit from EAM.
- TextdokumentIf and where: Environmental antecedents of CDO adoption(3. Wissenschaftsforum: Digitale Transformation (WiFo21), 2021) Hossnofsky, Verena; Junge, Sebastian; Graf-Vlachy, LorenzThe opportunities and challenges of digital transformation lead many firms to adopt the position of a chief digital officer (CDO). Prior studies have started investigating the antecedents of CDO presence. However, they do not directly distinguish between CDOs positioned at the top management team level and CDOs located at lower levels of the organizational hierarchy. Additionally, pressures arising from a firm’s external environment have not been considered comprehensively and in detail from a theoretical as well as an empirical point of view. Our study addresses these points by performing panel data regression analyses on publicly listed German firms between 2016 and 2019. Our results indicate that the effects of environmental antecedents vary significantly for CDOs at different hierarchical levels.
- KonferenzbeitragWhat Got You Here Won’t Get You There. A multi-case study on the challenges in the transition from traditional towards continuous data practices in the embedded systems domain(1st International Conference on Software Product Management 2023, 2023) Olsson, Helena; Bosch, JanFor decades, product data has been collected and used for quality assurance, for post-deployment defect detection and for informing the next generation of products. Across industry domains, and with the online domain leading the way, companies have adopted experimentation and data driven practices such as A/B testing to evaluate product performance, customer behaviors and for determining what adds value to customers. However, with the rapid changes that new digital technologies bring, companies are moving towards continuous value delivery and monetization models in which they offer their products as-a-service or offer services to complement and extend their existing products. In this transition, the traditional way of post-deployment data collection and use is no longer sufficient. While companies realize this, they experience difficulties in making the changes they need to transition towards continuous practices and new ways of working with data. As a result, companies risk wasting development efforts on functionality that have little or no customer value and they lose out on the competitive advantages that come with insights derived from continuous collection and use of data. In this paper, we explore the challenges companies experience in the transition from traditional towards continuous practices and the implications this shift has on their ways of working with data.
