- ZeitschriftenartikelAuralization of Concert Halls for Touristic Purposes(i-com: Vol. 21, No. 1, 2022) Schauer, Sophie; Bertocci, Stefano; Cioli, Federico; Sieck, Jürgen; Shakhovska, Natalya; Vovk, OlenaThis paper presents the progress implemented during the AURA project, funded by the Creative-Europe program with project partners from Germany, Italy, and Ukraine. The project aims to create auralized applications for three music venues in each of the project countries, namely the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Teatro del Maggio in Florence, and the Opera House Lviv. Each will be digitally recreated and auralized before they are then used to conduct case studies. This paper gives insights into current digitalization and auralization techniques. The results of a digital survey will be laid out and the conception and implementation of a first auralized prototype using a hand-modeled 3D object from the Great Hall of the Konzerthaus Berlin will be demonstrated. Furthermore, the usage of auralization for touristic purposes will be investigated using artificial intelligence for an audience preference analysis. A conclusion will be drawn and a short outlook into the ongoing course of the AURA project will be given.
- ZeitschriftenartikelEvaluation of Mixed Reality Support for Bridge Inspectors Using BIM Data - Digital Prototype for a Manual Task with a Long-Lasting Tradition(i-com: Vol. 21, No. 2, 2022) Riedlinger, Urs; Klein, Florian; Hill, Marcos; Lambracht, Christian; Nieborowski, Sonja; Holst, Ralph; Bahlau, Sascha; Oppermann, LeifBridge inspectors work for the safety of our infrastructure and mobility. In regular intervals, they conduct structural inspections – a manual task with a long-lasting and firmly normed analogue tradition. In our collaborative research project, we developed Mixed Reality (MR) and Virtual Reality (VR) prototypes to support that work digitally. We propose a mixed analogue and digital workflow using Building Information Modeling (BIM) data that can be ready-to-hand for bridge inspectors during their work on-site at a bridge. In this paper, we describe the system and the evaluation results of our final MR demonstrator at a autobahn-bridge in Germany. We identified a need for a digital MR tool to support the bridge inspection in-situ. In general, this matches with the trend to bring the computer-supported office-work out into the real world. However, there are also challenges to consider, like lacking BIM data for existing bridges and structures, appropriate user-interfaces in this new application domain, or the need to adopt norms and guidelines for public tender. We argue to consider a user-centered design approach for future developments to best profit from the bridge inspectors’, as well as the MR- and CSCW-researchers expertise, and ultimately increase the acceptance of the developed information systems.

- KonferenzbeitragTowards a common understanding of digital transformation in agriculture(41. GIL-Jahrestagung, Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologie in kritischen Zeiten, 2021) Hannus, Veronika; Kolbe, Thomas H.This article presents a literature-based approach to delimitate the topic of ‘digital transformation in agriculture’. We elaborate a Scopus search string and find six clusters that form and describe this new field of research. Most prominent topic clusters are remote sensing, geographic information systems, internet-of-things and image processing, with the last two being most topical. Social science topics seem to be underrepresented or to have not yet established a direct link in this new research area via key terms. Further, European publications reflect the full range of worldwide research, although there is a slightly stronger focus on environmental issues
